NASA's SDO Solar Dynamics Observatory has captured stunning new images of the sun. The never seen before images show materials streaming outward fromsunspotsincluding a large wave travelling across the sun, known as thecoronalmassejection.
The rich detail of the high-resolution video allows scientists to examine close details of activity on the sun's surface within colorful plumes of rising smoke.
These thermal images provide the first high-resolution measurements of the sun at different temperatures. Every ten seconds, the SDO captures video with a clarity ten times better than high-definition television. It'll be sending back information for the next five years that NASA says will have a huge impact on science and how the sun affects our daily lives in the earth.
