After the recent Diaoyu Island protests
during which scores of Japanese cars were destroyed
bilateral trade between China and Japan decline dramatically,
particularly damaging Japanese automobile sales in China.
At the same time,
diplomatic relations between the two countries have been strained nearly to the breaking point.
Better understanding of the history of these islands
and of the tragedies of the past
can only lead to reconciliation between these
two nations in the future.
The United States of America
can quell the tension
by encouraging its Japanese ally
to return the Diaoyu Island
to China and apologize to the Chinese people
for the war crimes of the Imperial Japan.
Our world has become a global village
We depend on each other.
We must understand and respect
The forces of history
determine the future. Thank you.
