Hi my name is Rebecca and in today's lesson we're going to talk about how to minimize problems or disagreements

大家好,我是Rebecca。在今天这节课上,我们将学习如何将问题或分歧最小化
and how to create greater agreement with the person that you're speaking to.
以及如何与谈话人更好的达成一致。
You will probably recognize some of these techniques once we start to go over them because I'm sure you've heard them in various business contexts in different places.
你可能见过今天我们要学习的交谈技巧,因为你一定在各种商务场合中听过这样的谈话。
So let's look at an example. The way we're going to do this is by learning how to use qualifiers.
让我们来看看下面这个例子。掌握这个技巧的诀窍在于如何使用修饰语。
A qualifier is a word which softens the tone or softens the intensity of whatever we are trying to say.
修饰语可以用来缓和说话的语气或是缓和语句强度。
So let's suppose that you work for an airline and the the flight is going to be delayed and you have to announce this to 350 tired passengers or anxious passengers.
假设你在航空公司工作,某趟航班将会延误而你要通知350名疲劳、焦急等待的乘客这个消息。
So naturally you're not going to say, we have, ladies and gentlemen, we are going to have a long delay.
你自然不会说,女士们、先生们,我们的航班将长时延误。
No. Because if you say that it's going to get a very harsh reaction so you try to minimize the problem by saying,
你不会这么说,因为如果你这么说的话会引起乘客强烈的反应,因此,要将问题最小化,你可以说,
Ladies and gentlemen, we have or sorry to announce that we have a slight delay of your flight to London.
女士们、先生们,我们很抱歉的通知您,飞往伦敦的航班将稍有延误。
So usually they will say it's a slight delay even though it might be a longer delay but they say a slight delay
通常都会说稍有延误,即使延误时间可能会很长,但是任会说成是稍有延误,
because they're trying to minimize the problem or minimize the difficulty, okay?
因为,这样可以将问题或难题最小化,明白了么?
You can use this technique quite effectively in lots of different situations personal and professional. Let's look at another example.
你可以在不同的私人和专业场合有效运用这种技巧。来看下一个例子。
Let's say that you have a problem, you could go to somebody and say, we have a huge problem, we have a gigantic problem,
假设,你和某人之间有问题,你可以找到这个人,然后跟他说,我们之间有很大的问题,我们之间有巨大的问题,
but if you do that you're kind of exaggerating the extent or the degree of the problem.
但是如果你这么说的话,你是在夸大这个问题的程度。
So usually, instead of that, we might say, we have a bit of a problem. Now in fact, it might be a really big problem.
因此通常会说,我们之间有点小问题。而事实上,这可能真的是个很大的问题。

But by minimizing it, you make it more possible for people to feel psychologically that they can resolve this problem.

So it's also a psychological technique as well as a verbal technique. We have a bit of a problem, okay?
因此,这既是心理技术也是语言技术。我们之间有点小问题。明白了么?
Another example. We have a slight misunderstanding perhaps. We have a slight misunderstanding perhaps. We have a little misunderstanding, not a big one, all right?
下一个例子。也许我们之间有点小误会。不是什么大误会。
We had a small disagreement with the client, okay? not a big one. Or you don't say that it was a big one, say that it was a small disagreement,
我们和客户之间有小分歧。不是大分歧。或者,你不要说这是一个大分歧,而是说,这是一个小分歧,
in other words, something that you can resolve, some situation that you can overcome, all right?
换句话说,这是我们可以解决的分歧,是我们可以克服的情况。明白了么?
We need a little more time to complete the project. Not a lot of time.
我们需要多一点时间去完成这个项目。不是很多时间。
You're going to ask for a little more time. perhaps you'll ask for a little more time several times to make up a lot of time,

but initially if you ask someone for a lot of time, they might say no.
但是你在一开始就要求加很多时间的话,一般是不会同意的。
If you ask someone for a little more time, they're more likely to say yes, okay?

We need to make a few changes in the contract. Now it's possible that it might take you days or weeks or months to make these changes,
这个合同有几个需要改动的地方。很可能这些改动会花费几天、几周或是几个月的时间,
and in fact there are a lot of them, but you're going to say, we need to make a few changes. All right?
并且变动的地方很多,但是你应该说,有几个地方需要改动。
