Kobe is one of Japan's top ten largest cities

and it was among the first ports to be open to foreign trade in the 19th century

Kobe is located on the southern side of the main island in the Kansai region
神户位于日本四大岛屿之一——本州岛内关西地区的南部
It's the capital of Hyogo prefecture and is a very short ride away from Osaka and Kyoto
它是兵库县的县厅所在地，从大阪或京都坐车一会儿就到了
making it the perfect day trip

The city of Kobe is in between the sea and the mountain
神户依山傍海
So you can enjoy the best of both worlds

My trip started off in Tokyo where I took the bullet train early in the morning
我从东京出发坐了早晨的高铁
It takes just under three hours to get from Tokyo to Kobe
从东京到神户不到3个小时就到了
So it's best to go early in the morning
所以最好早上去
You also get a great view of Mount Fuji on a clear day

So be sure to sit on the right-hand side

The first place we'll be going to is the herb garden

It's only a 5-minute walk from Shin-Kobe station
从新神户站出发走5分钟就到了
and there are a lot of signs to guide you, so it's hard to get lost
而且一路上有很多标志，很难迷路
The herb garden is located up in the mountains
植物园在山里
So first you have to ride the Rope way up
所以要先坐一个缆车
or alternatively you can take a one hour hike up the mountain
或者也可以爬山，差不多1个小时
you can purchase your ticket at the ticket gate
可以去售票窗口买票
and it costs one thousand and four hundred yen for a return ticket
往返的话是1400日元
or nine hundred yen for a one-way ticket
单程是900日元

So it's probably around a 10 minute ride

which I think it's really worth it.

I even got my tripod out.

Okay, we are nearly the top
好了，我们快到山顶了
At the top station, you have a lookout point
山顶站有一个瞭望台
where you can get a nice view of Kobe
可以一览神户这座城市
There are also a few restraunts and shops at the top
山顶也有很多餐厅和商店
so you can check those out as well
也可以去那里逛一逛
Then from the top station you can take a nice stroll down to the middle station
接着从山顶你可以慢慢地走到山腰站
and enjoy all the flowers and herbs along the way
沿途可以观赏到各种鲜花和绿植
There is also the very nice cafe here
这里还有一个非常棒的咖啡馆
that gives you a great view of Kobe city
在这儿俯瞰神户的话，风景也很不错
And you can end your visit here by soaking your foot at the foot bar

I recommend spending at least two hours here

and that should give you enough time to enjoy the area

which is only a 10-minute walk from the rope way

Like I charged the day before, full charge

it just goes flatly

Okay there's a lot of signs around

so I find that really helpful

So this is the area I want to go to

Kitano is the district where many foreign merchants and diplomats settled
北野这个地方呢，很多外国商人或大使就在北野住了下来
after the port was open to foreign trade in the second half of the nineteenth century
自从19世纪后半叶这里对外通商以后
More than a dozen of the former mansions remain in the area
以前的别墅现在还有十几座，
and it opened to the public as museums
现在成了对外开放的博物馆了
Most of the houses charge a small admission fee
大多数别墅的门票都很便宜
But the entire district is pleasant to walk through
但这整个地区非常适合漫步
and it offers a variety of cafes, restaurants and boutiques
有各种各样的咖啡馆、餐厅和精品店
In Kobe you can get around the city by bus or train
来了神户你可以坐火车或巴士在周围转转
there's a bus called the City Loop bus

and that takes you around the main attractions

however for me I prefer to explore the city on foot

and for Kobe City it's actually not too big

and the attractions aren't far from each other, only a 10 to 15 minute walk

and so if you don't mind walking

I definitely recommend exploring the city on foot

You'll discover a little neat things along the way as well

and it's just more interesting that way

there are a lot of signs and maps everywhere you go and the people are very friendly

so even if you are like me and your phone died

you can still manage to get around the city
