Well, we talk a lot about grammar.

But where do these rules come from?

People study and learn grammar in different ways.

One way is called prescriptive grammar.
一种方法叫做规定性语法。
Here, Grammar is considered a set of rules to follow.
在这里，语法被认为是一套需要遵循的规则。
These rules are passed from one generation to another,
这些规则代代相传，
and they tell people how they should speak and write.
它们告诉人们应该如何说话和写作。
Fun fact: Did you know that the United States does not have an official language?

The second form is called descriptive grammar.
第二种形式叫做描述性语法。
Here, grammar experts observe and explore how language is used.

They don't tell people how they should speak or write;

rather, they study how people do speak and write.

In fact, some linguists say that grammar rules are used to show differences between people.

In other words, grammar rules are a product of social styles, customs and politics of a time.

Like the case of the double negative.

Some people use it, some people don't.

Or using the word "ain't" for "is not" or "do not".
