Hey there! Welcome to Life Noggin.

It's a winter wonderland, and that snowman has a sword. That's cool.
As the days get colder and colder, we all have to think about how to best keep ourselves all warm and snuggly.
What, you didn’t think that digital winters were a thing? Oh believe me, they’re very real — and very chilly!
That’s why we’re all huddled up together around the fire. Hey, stop hogging all the egg noggin, Triangle Bob!
Now, while cold winter days can be pretty gloomy themselves,
right now me and the gang are dealing with something that’s quite a bit scarier: a blizzard.
A blizzard is a storm that has significant falling or blowing snow, reduced visibility,
and wind speeds at around 56 kph or greater, all for a period of 3 hours or longer.
Add everything up and you have a pretty dangerous combination.
During a blizzard, it’s a lot safer just to stay inside,
but what if the worst happened and you were stuck out in the cold for some reason?
How long would it take for things to get pretty bad? Let’s find out!
With a blizzard, one of the most dangerous things about it is how cold it can get.
You usually start to get hypothermia — which can be deadly — when your body temperature drops just a few degrees below its normal temperature.
Beyond things just being cold in general, all those winds that we were talking about earlier can make it feel even colder.
That’s the whole idea behind wind chill. In some places around the US,
winter wind chills have been recorded below minus 50 degrees Celsius more often than I’d be comfortable with.
In fact, according to a CBS report, Mount Washington,
New Hampshire hit a temperature of around minus 38 degrees Celsius back in January of this year with a wind chill of minus 68 degrees!
When you’re exposed to super low wind chill values, it increases your risk of things like hypothermia and even frostbite,
which is why we probably shouldn’t be out here right now.

It’s all for the sake of science though, right friends? With frostbite, things can actually start to get bad a lot quicker than you might think.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values near minus 32 degrees Celsius can cause you to get frostbite within 15 minutes of exposure to the cold.
And if you have even lower temperatures and higher wind speeds, you start to get into the 5 to 10 minute range.
Things like your fingers, toes, and ear lobes are some of the areas most susceptible to frostbite since they might not get as much circulation.
Hey, for once we’re lucky that our animator didn’t give us those things! Pretty cool! And the dangers of blizzards don’t just end there.
The strong winds can knock down trees and power lines. Some blizzards can even sink ships!
In 1888, a blizzard hit the East coast of the United States, causing hundreds of people to die and an estimated 200 ships to sink.
So blizzards can be pretty scary, and you should try and stay inside,
but if you do have to go out, we have a few tips from the National Weather Service to help you out.
First off, make sure you bundle up in a bunch of layers and wear things like mittens, hats, and big, warm scarfs.
Try to find some waterproof insulated boots and other waterproof clothing since wet clothing can cause you to lose body heat even faster.
Alright, gang. I think it’s time for a group hug to help thaw us out! Oh yeah.
Animator, can't you just transport us to sunny weather? Yeah! Thank you!
Got any more questions on surviving extreme weather conditions?

In that time frame, the ten warmest years on the planet have actually happened in the last 20 or so years, so things definitely seem to be heating up.
