Are you surprised?

你感到惊讶吗?
I'm surprised.
我很惊讶。
Every day, I'm surprised.
我每天都感到很惊讶。
I wake up and I'm like "Wow, I didn't die.
我醒来的时候,就像是“哇,我没死。
I'm surprised I'm still here."
我还在这里,我太惊讶了。”
I'm more surprised that you haven't given me a donation.
我更惊讶的是你没有给我捐款。
Come on, what's going on?
拜托,发生什么事了?
Open your pockets, open your wallet, give me some money.
打开你的口袋,打开你的钱包,给我一些钱。
I'm dying here!
我快死在这里了!
Today, I'm going to surprise you with some surprising plurals.
今天,我将用一些令人惊讶的复数形式给你一个惊喜。
Now, plurals means that something has an "s",
复数形式意味着单词后面有个“s”,
the opposite of plural is singular,
复数的反义词是单数,
and I tell you all the time,
我一直告诉你,
English does not really follow a logical pattern,
英语并不真的遵循逻辑模式,
and this is a very wonderful exception to this,
这就是一个很好的例外,
and the reason why you make these mistakes - it's not your fault.
你犯这些错误的原因就是,这不是你的错。
It's English's fault.
是英语的错。
I always tell you;
我总是告诉你;
I think when they were making my language, they were drunk, mmhmm.
我想他们在发明英语时,他们喝多了,嗯。
They were just drinking and said let's just put an "s" here,
他们当时在喝酒,一边说着我们在这放个“s”吧,
but don't put one here, because that'll be too easy and follow a pattern.
但是别在这放一个“s”,那就太容易了,有模式可以遵循。
So, today's lesson is on surprising plurals.
所以,今天的课程是关于一些令人惊讶的复数形式。
You're going to be so surprised because I have a green thing.
你会感到惊讶的,因为我拿着一个绿色的东西。
Isn't that surprising enough?
这还不够让人惊讶吗?
So, the first one that I always want to exemplify and tell people is that people,
所以,我首先想要举例说明并告诉大家的就是people(人),
yeah, are always plural.
是的,这个单词总是复数形式。
This means one is a person, and we do have the word "persons" in English, but we don't say that.
这意味着一个人用的是person,英语中的确有“persons”,但我们不会这样表达。
Maybe your textbook says that.
可能你的教科书中会这样表达。
Your textbook's stupid, because we don't say that, so people are always plural.
你的教科书很蠢,因为我们不会这样说,所以people总是复数形式。
So, when you're taking about people,
所以当你们讨论关于people时,
we need to use the verb "to be" in the plural sense.
我们需要使用动词“to be”的复数形态。
We can't say "people is",
我们不能说“people is”
we're going to say "people are".
我们要说“people are”。
So, people are always plural.
所以people总是复数。
People are always going to work.
人们总是要去工作。(People are always going to work.)
People are always buying things they don't need.
人们总是在买自己不需要的东西。(People are always buying things they don't need.)
People are always copying other people.
人们总是模仿别人。(People are always copying other people.)
Huh.
嗯。

The next one is everyone.

下一个单词是everyone(每个人)。
So, logically in your brain,
所以,从逻辑上讲,在你的大脑中,
we have everyone or everybody, and these are the same, okay?
我们有everyone或者everybody,他们是相同的,
Everyone and everybody is the same word.
everyone和everybody是相同的单词。
We think that everyone and everybody must be many people.
我们认为everyone和everybody一定是有许多人。
You're right, it is many people, but guess what?
没错,是有很多人,你猜怎么着?
This is actually not a plural!
这不是一个复数形式!
This - for some strange reason, we treat as a singular.
因为某个奇怪的理由,我们认为它是个单数。
So, if we have a verb here in the present tense,
所以,如果我们这里有一个现在时态的动词,
we have to say "everyone likes" or "everybody feels".
我们得说“everyone likes(每个人喜欢)”或者“everybody feels(每个人觉得)”。
I hear people say, "Everyone like me".
我听人们说过,“Everyone like me”。
Hm, no, no, they don't actually.
嗯,不,不,他们其实不是。
Oh, ahem, of course they do,
哦,他们当然喜欢你,
but you have to say, "Everyone likes me."
但是你得说“Everyone likes me.(每个人都喜欢我。)”
So, everyone and everybody,
所以everyone和everybody
we treat this as a singular,
我们认为是单数
so you need to put the "s" on the base verb.
所以你需要在基本动词上加上“s”。
It's the same for no one and nobody.
no one和nobody(没有人)也是一样的。
Logically, in your brain, no one, not one, oh, that might work, but nobody, eh, one.
从逻辑上讲,在你的大脑里,no one,not one,哦,那可能有用,但是nobody,呃,one。
It has - it might make a little bit more sense,
是的-这可能更有道理,
because these are actually singular,
因为其实这些是单数,
so you need to put the "s",
所以你要加上“s”,
but again, I hear people say, "No one care", but you have to say "No one cares", or "Nobody wants", okay?
但是我又会听到人们说“No one care”,但是你得说“No one cares(没有人在意)”或者“Nobody wants(没有人想要)”,好吗?
And again, no one and nobody have the exact same meaning.
no one和nobody拥有相同的意思。
Everyone and everybody is the exact same.
everyone和everybody是一样的。
It doesn't matter, choose your favorite,
没关系,选择你喜欢的,
but remember, these ones are singular.
但是记住,这些是单数。
You must put the "s" on the verb.
你得在动词上加上“s”。
And this might be probably the strangest one of all.
这个可能是最奇怪的了。
All of the.
All of the(所有的)。
So you're thinking, so, "all of the..." means "every", okay, which means more than one.
所以你思考一下,"all of the..."意味着(every),也就是意味着超过一个。
Not in English.
不是在英语中。
We have to say, "All of the hamburgers",
我们得说“All of the hamburgers(所有的汉堡)”,
so our noun here has to be a plural noun if it's plural.
所以我们这里的名词必须是复数名词,如果它是复数的话。
Now, if it's a singular noun, it's cool,
如果是一个单数名词,很棒,
but some of the, so, some of the people, we don't need an "s", remember, but some of the dogs,
我们要用some of the,所以some of the people(一些人),我们不用使用“s”,记住要用some of the dogs(一些狗),
we can't say "Some of the dog".
我们不能说“Some of the dog”。
That would be a portion of the dog.
这句话是在讲狗的一部分。
Some of the dog is delicious to eat, but other parts - no!
狗的某些部位好吃,其他部分不好吃!(Some of the dog is delicious to eat, but other parts - no!)
No, don't eat the dogs!
不,别吃狗!
Come on!
拜托!
Some of the dogs are cute.
Some of the dogs are cute.(一些狗很可爱。)
Again, we have the negative "none of the",
我们有否定形式“none of the(没有一个)”,
none of the pizzas are delicious, unfortunately.
none of the pizzas are delicious, unfortunately.(不幸的是,没有一个披萨好吃。)
So, when we have "All of the", "Some of the" and "None of the" with a noun that's plural,
所以"All of the", "Some of the"和 "None of the"后面加上复数名词,
we have to make sure that we put an "s" on the plural noun.
我们一定要确认我们在复数名词上加了“s”。
So, these are words that I hear frequently people who do not speak English as their native language make mistakes on,
所以,我经常听到那些不以英语为母语的人会在这些单词上犯错误,
and it's cool.
很酷。
Just try and remember these guys always get an "s", yay for the "s".
试着记住这些家伙总是要加上“s”,对的是“s”。
And then, we have words that - hey, guess what, these ones don't need an "s" at all,
然后,我们会说-嘿,猜猜怎么着,这些词根本不需要“s”,
and the first one is the word vocabulary.
第一个是单词vocabulary(词汇)。
It is actually not vocabularies.
不是vocabularies。
Now, I have a funny story.
现在我要讲一个很有意思的故事。
I was sent an offer for a job and they said
我收到了一份工作邀请,他们说
"Ronnie, please make a scenario about"
“罗尼,请设想一下”,
now, this is an English school, okay, this is an English school,
这是一个英语学校,好的,是一个英语学校,
"Please make a scenario about a child who knows many vocabularies."
“Please make a scenario about a child who knows many vocabularies.(请假设一个孩子会很多词汇。)”
What?
什么?
I'm sorry, you're an English school,
抱歉,你们是一家英语学校?
and you're sending me this as "vocabularies"?
你们在对我说“vocabularies”?
Guess what?
猜猜怎么着?
Ronnie doesn't want this.
罗尼不想要这份工作。
Ronnie's not taking this because "vocabulary" is what we see in English is uncountable.
罗尼不接受这个工作,因为我们在英语中看到的“vocabulary(词汇)”是不可数的。
You can't have vocabularies,
你不能用vocabularies,
you can only have vocabulary.
你只能用vocabulary。
It is an uncountable noun, okay.
好吧,这是一个不可数名词。
So, most of these ones I'm going to tell you about,
所以通过这些单词,我要告诉你的是,
we call uncountable nouns,
我们叫做不可数名词,
and there's an "s" just to make your life more confusing.
在这有一个“s”是为了让你的生活更加迷糊。
The other one, so, I know this website, yeah,
下一个,所以,我知道这个网站,是的,
maybe two of the websites, and they like to pretend to teach English as well.
也许是其中两个网站,他们也喜欢假装教英语。
And when I look at their websites, they have things like "slangs".
当我看他们的网站时,他们有“slangs”之类的东西。
And I think wow, in India, do all of the people learning English learn incorrectly that it's "slangs"?
我想,哇,在印度,所有学习英语的人都会错误地认为它是“slangs”吗?
And I go "Oh, Lord Jesus, crazy people.",
我会说“哦,上帝啊,疯狂的人”,
because it's not "slangs", it's "slang".
因为不是“slangs”,是“slang(俚语)”。
So, be careful.
所以小心点。
Be careful what you're learning, be careful about the knowledge that people are giving you, because it could be wrong!
小心你学的东西,小心别人教给你的知识,因为这可能是错误的!
Ah, go figure.
啊,想想看。
We don't have "informations", we only have one, and it's called "information",
我们没有“informations”,我们只有一个,就是“information(信息)”,
so you can get a lot of wrong information on the internet.
所以你在网络上会得到许多错误的信息。
Be careful.
要小心。
Does your friend try to help you and give you encouragement and tell you what to do?
你的朋友会试着帮你,鼓励你,告诉你做些什么吗?
Actually, this word is "advice", and it's not plural.
其实这个词是“advice(建议)”,它不是复数的。
You can't have "advices", even if it's from many people,
你不能用“advices”,即使是来自很多朋友,
it's just "advice, so you can say, "My five friends gave me advice.".
只能用“advice(建议)”,所以你可以说“My five friends gave me advice.(我的五个朋友给了我建议。)”。
They can't give you advices.
他们不能给你advices。
