Forget.

忘记
I'll never forget watching my first horror movie…
我永远都无法忘记第一次看恐怖电影……
Don't forget to watch the news tonight!
今天晚上不要忘记看新闻!
Do these verb patterns have the same meaning?
这些动词结构的意思相同吗?
No, not at all!
并不,完全不同!
‘forget' with a gerund means to look back at past memories.
后面加动名词的“forget”指的是回顾过去的回忆。
I'll never forget watching my first horror movie… I was so scared that I couldn't sleep for weeks!
我永远不会忘记第一次看恐怖电影……我害怕的几周没睡着觉!
I wish I could forget falling down the stairs in front of the whole school.
我希望我能忘记在全校人面前从楼梯上跌下来的经历。
So let's try this together.
我们一起来试一下吧。
Do you have an embarrassing memory that you wish you could forget?
你有哪些希望能够忘记的尴尬经历吗?
Write a sentence in the comments below so that I can check it for you.
在下面的评论区写下相关的句子,我可以为你们检查一下。
Now ‘forget' with the to-infinitive is used to give a reminder to someone, to make sure that they do something, that they don't forget.
而当你提醒别人的时候,需要使用带to的不定式形式的“forget”,确保他们会做某件事情,而不会忘记。
Don't forget to watch the news tonight!
不要忘记收看今晚的新闻!
I was interviewed on the main street today, so I don't want you to miss it!
我今天在大街上接受了采访,所以我不想让你错过!
Don't forget to bring your tickets, otherwise, they won't let you in to the show!
不要忘记带上票,否则他们不会让你进去看演出的!
Remember.
记得。
Do you remember dancing with me on our first date?
你还记得我们第一次约会时,你和我一起跳舞的场景吗?
Remember to take lots of pictures on your trip.
记得旅行时要多拍一些照片。
Do you notice any similarities between ‘forget' and ‘remember'?
你注意到“forget”和“remember”之间有什么相似之处吗?
‘remember' with a gerund is used to talk about a memory.
“remember”加上动名词,可以用来谈论回忆。
What do you remember about your first date?
关于你第一次约会,你还记得什么?
I remember eating ribs covered in sticky sauce with my hands!
我记得用手直接吃满是黏糊糊的酱汁的肋骨!
Thanks Shah! It was really awkward I had sticky stuff coming all the way down my arms.
天哪!那真的太尴尬了,那些黏糊糊的东西一直流到了我的胳膊上。

Now remember with the to-infinitive is used to talk about something that someone needs to do,to remind them to do something.
“remember”加to不定式,可以用来谈论某人需要做某事,要去提醒某人做某事。
Remember to whisk the eggs before adding the sugar.
在加糖之前要记得搅拌鸡蛋。
Remember to turn at the intersection, otherwise, you'll get stuck on a one-way road.
记得要在十字路口转弯,否则你就要困在单行道上了。
regret
遗憾,后悔
The verb ‘regret' with a gerund is used to talk about something that you did in the past, that you aren't happy about anymore.
“regret”后面加动名词,可以用来谈论你过去做某件事,而你对此并不感到开心。
You know, decisions that you made in the past that you wish you didn't make.
你曾在过去做了一些决定,而你希望你并没有做这些决定。
When you wish you could go back in time and change those actions.
你希望可以回溯时间,改变你做的那些事情。
He regretted yelling at her as soon as she walked away.
当她离开的时候,他马上后悔对她大喊大叫了。
He woke up with a pounding headache and immediately regretted drinking so much the night before.
他早上起来的时候头痛欲裂,马上后悔前一天晚上喝太多了。
What do you wish you could go back in time and change?
你希望能够回到过去,改变什么吗?
Can you write a sentence about it? Add it to the comments.
你能写一个相关的句子吗?写在评论区里。
Now ‘regret' with the to-infinitive is used to tell someone bad news or something that they don't want to hear.
“regret”加上to不定式,是用来告诉某人坏消息,或者他们不想听到的事情。
And this verb pattern is really formal language.
这种动词结构非常正式。
And it's always followed by bad news.
后面总是会跟着坏消息。
So these are the words that you don't want to hear after a job interview.
所以下面这些话是你不希望在面试后听到的。
I regret to say that I wasn't impressed by the performance.
很遗憾,你的表现并没有让我有什么印象。
We regret to inform you that you have ten days left to pay the account, otherwise, we'll close it.
我们很遗憾地通知您,您还有十天的时间付款,否则,我们将关停账户。
mean

We missed our bus which meant waiting six hours until the next one.
我们错过了公交车,那就意味着我们要等六个小时才能等到下一班。
Did you mean to miss the meeting this morning?
你是真的打算要错过今天早晨的会议吗?
So when ‘mean' is followed by a gerund, it's used to talk about what the response or the result of something is.
当“mean”后面跟着动名词的时候,可以用来谈论反应,或者某件事的结果是什么。
Make sure you bring your jacket or it will mean getting really wet and cold.
一定要带上外套,否则那就意味着你会又湿又冷。
Visiting my sister in London means spending eight hours on a plane.
拜访我在伦敦的姐姐就意味着要在飞机上度过8个小时。
‘mean' with the to-infinitive is used when you intend or you plan to do something.
“mean”跟着to不定式,用于当你打算或计划做某事。
So when it's used in the past tense, this verb is especially useful for excuses.
所以在过去时中使用的时候,用这个动词来阐述借口非常适用。
I meant to call you last night, but I totally forgot!
我昨晚本来打算给你打电话的,但我完全忘了!
She meant to put sugar in your coffee, but she accidentally added salt.
她本来要在你的咖啡中加糖的,但她不小心加了盐。
So now that you've had plenty of practice with gerunds and infinitives, it's time to move on to a new lesson.
既然你已经做了大量关于动名词和不定式的练习,那是时候继续新的课程啦。
