Today I’m going to talk about some thing that’s a little bit tricky, that makes things a little bit confusing.
今天我要讲一些复杂的内容，会让人有些困惑的内容。
I’m going to ask you to listen to nothing. Now, what do I mean?
我要让大家听的是空白。这是什么意思？
We’re going to look at some words here that can be said differently, written differently for sure, with different meaning, ok?
今天我们来看一些说起来和写起来都不一样的词汇，它们的意思不同。
“Sometimes”, “sometime”, “some time”, “always”, “all ways”, ok?
“sometimes”，“sometime”，“some time”，“always”，“all ways”。
So these are the words we’re looking at. What I am asking you to listen to, especially,
这些就是我们要学习的词汇。我想让大家听的，尤其是，
is the blank space between two words, that change the meaning of the word, ok?
两个单词间的空格，是它改变了单词的意思。
So we’re looking at “Sometimes”, “sometime”, “some time”, “always”, “all ways”, ok?
我们要学习“sometimes”，“sometime”，“some time”，“always”，“all ways”。
Do you hear that little pause between. You’ll get used to it. Let’s look at the meaning of all these words.
你听到中间的停顿了吗？你会习惯的。让我们来看看这些单词的意思。
What is “sometimes”? “Sometimes” is an adverb, sometimes we call it an adverb of frequency, means how often you do something.
“sometimes”是什么意思？“sometimes”是一个副词，有时我们称它为频率副词，意思是我们做某事的频率。
So for example, I sometimes play tennis or sometimes I play tennis, not every day,
比如，我有时打网球，并不是每天打。
maybe not every week, but sometimes yes, sometimes no, kind of regular, etc.
或许不是每周，但是有时候打，有时候不打，有一点频繁，等等。
“Sometime” – Now this has two meanings. First, notice, there is no “s” at the end.
“sometime”有两个意思。首先，注意，结尾处没有“s”。
That’s how you know it’s a different word. This always has an “s”.
这样你就知道它是一个不同的词了。这个通常都有一个“s”。
So, two ways to use it. “Sometime” – we can talk about a time in the future, ok?
它有两种用法。“sometime”，我们可以表达未来的一个时间。
Sometime next year, I will move to Hawaii. That would be nice.
明年的某个时候，我会搬到夏威夷。这很棒。
Sometime – I don’t know when but in the future, sometime.
某个时间，我不知道具体时间，但是是未来的某个时间。
Another way we can use sometime is talk about indefinite time.
另外一种使用它的方式是谈论不确定的时间。
Now, this might sound similar to this one and it is. The only difference is you can also talk about the past, ok?
这可能听起来像这个，确实。唯一的区别在于，你可以用它谈论过去。
So, sometime last week, my friend came over and didn’t even tell me.
上周的某个时间，我朋友来了，但是没有给我打电话。
He came back to the city. When? I don’t know. Sometime last week.

So I look at the past week, sometime in there. I don’t know exactly when.
我知道是上周的某个时间。我不知道具体的时间。
I can also talk about the future so, similar idea but a little bit different.
我也可以谈论未来。所以相似的意思，但是有一点区别。
You can talk about past, you can talk about future, different ways. “Some time” is an amount of time.
你可以用不同的方式谈论过去和未来。“some time”指的是一段时间。
I have some time this afternoon if you want to go get a drink, for example, if you want to go get a coffee.
如果你想去喝杯饮料的话，我今天下午有一些时间。如果你想去喝咖啡的话。
I have some free time. You can put the “free” in it but you don’t need to.
我有一些空闲时间。你可以把“free”放到里面，但是不需要。
If you say I have some time, it means you are free. It’s understood, ok?
如果你说我有时间，意思是你是空闲的。可以理解。
Now, “always” – again, this is another adverb of frequency. “I always breath”.
“always”是另外一个频率副词。“我总是呼吸”。
You know what I mean, you do too. You’re always breathing.
你知道我的意思，你也是。你总是呼吸。
I mean there’re lots of things you do always but that is an easy example.
我的意思是，你总是会做很多事情，但这是一个简单的例子。
“All ways” means “all” – total, “ways” – methods or paths. There is a very famous expression: “All ways lead to Rome”.
“all ways”意思是，“all”，全部的，“ways”方法或者途径。有一句非常有名的表达：“条条大路通罗马”。
I don’t know if you have heard that from… but all the ways, all the methods,
我不知道你是从哪里听到这句话的，但是所有的方式，所有的方法，
all the directions, all the paths, streets, etc that you can take.
所有的方向，所有的路径，街道，等等，你都可以采取。
Total directions, methods, etc. The easiest way to understand this is to see them used in examples.
全部的方向，方法，等等。理解这个的最简单的方法是举例子。
So let’s do that. I’ll put up a couple of examples. Ok, so we have a party, we’re having fun. That’s nice.
我们就这样做。我会举一些例子。我们举行一个派对，我们玩的很开心。这很棒。
Everybody likes the party. You have Person A, you have Peson B. They met for the first time at this party.
大家都喜欢这个派对。A和B在这个派对上初次相遇。
Ok, at the end Person A is about to leave. He’s talking to Person B, said: “It was nice meeting you.
最后，A要离开了。他和B说，“遇到你很开心。
Let’s go for a drink…….” Which one do we use? Sometimes, sometime, some time? Can you guess?
我们去喝一杯吧...”我们应该用哪一个词呢？sometimes，sometime还是some time？你知道吗？
Let’s go for a drink…future, in the future…, ok, so sometime. Now, people often say this.
我们以后有时间去喝一杯吧。就是sometime。人们经常这么说。
They meet somebody new. They said let’s go for a drink. They’re just being polite. What happens?
他们认识了新的人。他们说我们去喝一杯吧。他们就是在表示礼貌。发生了什么？
Person B, he is very happy, right? Or she is very happy “Great! I have….....this weekend” You know what this means?
B非常开心。或者她非常开心，“太棒了！这周末我有时间”你知道这是什么意思吗？
The little bubble of something. She has or he has some time.
某件事的一点希望。她或她有一些时间。
Some free time this weekend. So Person B really want to go for a drink with Person A.
这周末有些空闲时间。B真的想和A一块去喝一杯。
Person A is like Oh!...That is what I meant, they’re just being polite, right?
A就很惊讶。这就是我的意思，他们就是在表示礼貌。
“Oh! I……….go away for the weekend”. Go away means go out of town or go to the cottage to do whatever.
“哦！我这周有事出去。”离开意思是出城，或者是去村舍做事。
So, not every weekend, this weekend for sure but not every weekend. “Sometimes”, “I sometimes go away for the weekend.”
并不是每一个周末，这周末出去，但不是每周。“有时候”，“我有时在周末出去。”
So this person has already making an excuse. “I’ll ask my wife and get back to you…….this week.”
所以这个人已经编了一个理由。“我会让我妻子在这周的某个时间联系你。”
Oh, seven days in a week, which day I don’t know but one of these days. So, again, sometime.
一周有七天，我不知道哪一天，但是是其中一天。所以，sometime。
So there you go. As you saw, I use those four. Well I used three but I use one of them twice.
就是这样。如大家看到的，我使用了那四个词。我使用了三个，其中一个用了两次。
This person doesn’t really want to go for a drink with B. This is something people do.
这个人不是真的想和B喝一杯。这就是人们做的事情。
It’s not very nice but it happens. Person B doesn’t really understand.
它不是很好，但是这种事会发生。B并不是很明白。
Here is a little bonus quiz question. Is person A going to call Person B this week?
这里有一个附加的小问题。这个星期A会给B打电话吗？
No, probably not. It is not nice. It’s life. What can you do about it?

But sometime, some time, sometimes, sometime, ok? This is how each is used.
