Now let's move on to the second exception.

那现在让我们看一下第二个例外吧。

Before I said that 'any' is used in negative sentences and not positive ones, right?

之前我说‘any’用在否定句而非是肯定句里面,是吧?

Do you remember? But you can use 'any' in an affirmative sentence or a positive sentence if the sentence has a negative feeling.

你还记得吗?但是你可以在肯定句中使用‘any’,如果句子有一种否定的感觉的话。

Now positive sentences that include negative feelings usually have words like: hardly, never, rarely and without in them.

包含否定意思的肯定句通常会有这些词汇:hardly,never,rarely 和 without。

It's silly to go travelling without any money in the bank.

银行里没钱还去旅行是很傻的。

Now this sentence is a positive structure but we're talking about the lack of money which is a negative feeling or a negative idea.

这个句子是肯定句,但是我们讨论的是缺钱,这有种否定的感觉。

That's what we're talking about.

那就是我们在讨论的东西。

Now there's one last situation where 'any' can be used in an affirmative sentence.

还有最后一种情况‘any’可以用在肯定句中。

Now this is a special exception because it's also the only time that you might see 'any' or 'some' being used with a singular countable noun.

这是个非常特殊的例外,因为这也是唯一一种情况你可以看到‘any’或者是‘some’和单数可数名词连用。

That's a general rule that we're breaking here.

我们要打破一条基本的规则。

We can use 'any' in an affirmative sentence and commonly with a singular countable noun as a way to say it doesn't matter which one, alright?

我们可以在肯定句中使用‘any’,一半都是和单数的可数名词一起使用,是用来说是哪一个并不重要,对吧?

You can take any road going south.

你去南边走哪条路都可以。

It doesn't matter which road you take, it's not important. You can take any of them.

不管你走了哪条路都没关系,这并不重要。你走哪条路都可以。

Grab any shirt that you want.

你想穿哪件衬衫都可以。

It's not important which shirt you take, you can have whichever one you want.

你穿了哪件衬衫并不重要,你想穿哪件就穿哪件。

You can fly with any company. It doesn't matter which one.

你飞哪家公司都可以。哪家并不重要。

Now that we've been through some examples, you really shouldn't have any problem with this little quiz now, okay?

我们已经看了一些例子了,小测试应该难不倒你了,对吧?

Let's do the first one together.

那我们一起来做第一个吧。

All you need to do is choose the correct word, 'any' or 'some'.

你需要做的就是选择正确的单词,‘any’或者是‘some’。

Could be either but let's go with 'any' because 'any' is used in a question, especially one that you don't know the answer to and usually you're asking because you don't know.

两个都可以,但是让我们填‘any’吧,因为‘any’用在疑问句中,尤其是你不知道问题的答案的时候,而且你是因为不知道才问的。

Now if I was asking someone who I thought had kids, then I'd probably use a question tag and I'd say: You have some kids, don't you? Next one.

如果我问某个人,而我觉得这个人应该有孩子的话,那我们可能会使用反义疑问句,说:你有孩子,对吧?下一个。

Can I offer you more dessert?

我可以给你拿点甜点吗?

Now let's imagine that the person we're asking is a huge fan of dessert and always wants more.

让我们想象我们在问一个人,这个人超爱甜点,总是想要更多。

Alright so we probably can assume that the answer will be yes and it's an offer.

好的,所以我们可能可以假定答案永远是是的。

So 'some' is the correct answer here.

所以这里‘some’是正确的答案。

You can take. . . apple from the basket. Now this is a singular countable noun here, it's a clue.

你可以从篮子里拿苹果。这是个单数可数名词,这是个线索。

So it would have to be 'any'. I don't have. . . need for that.

所以必须是‘any’。我不需要。

Any or some? You got it. It's 'any', right?

Any还是some呢?你懂了,是‘any’,对吧?

Because 'any' is used in negative sentences.

因为‘any’是用在否定句中的。

Now for the last one let's go with: I hardly have time to read. . . book

最后一个让我们来看看:我没有时间看书。

Now even though this is an affirmative sentence, we're using 'hardly' which gives us a negative feeling, right?

即使这是个肯定句,我们在用‘hardly’,表示的是否定的意思,对吧?

So we would use 'any'.

所以我们要使用‘any’。

So how did you go? Did you get any of them wrong?

你做的怎么样?你们有人做错了吗?

Tell me in the comments below if you did and let me know if you've got any questions about them.

如果有做错的话,那就在评论区告诉我吧,如果大家有问题的话,请告诉我。

Try to write some example sentences of your own so that I can come down and check them out.

试着自己造几个句子吧,这样我就可以过去看看啦。

The English language is full of confusing word pairs just like these ones that are very similar in meaning but they're not exactly the same.
