Do you know what a highly sensitive person is? Do you think you could be an HSP?

HSPs experience the world a little differently than others due to their ability to process things more deeply and their heightened sensitivity towards their environments.

高度敏感人群对世界的体验与其他人略有不同,因为他们处理事物的能力更深刻,他们对环境的敏感度更高。

This personality trait was first researched by Dr.Elaine N.Aron in 1991.

The concept of high sensitivity has gained traction over the recent years and studies show that around 15 to 20% of the population identify as highly sensitive.

Do people around you always tell you not to be so sensitive? Does this make you feel invalidated or alone?

Well, in this video, we wanna raise this issue and help promote more acceptance towards highly sensitive people and bring awareness towards personality types, with a greater need for solitude and less stimulating environments.

So we'll be addressing seven things that only HSPs can relate to.

Number one, noisy environments are chaotic for you.

Do you get extremely annoyed at parties?

你有没有特别不喜欢聚会?

Does no one else seem to be bothered by the din of conversation, the bright flashing lights or the pulsing music?

As an HSP, you can't stand noisy environments as they overwhelm your senses.

作为一名高度敏感者,你无法忍受嘈杂的环境,因为它们淹没了你的感官。

Your sight, hearing and sense of smell are all on overdrive being around that much activity.

你的视觉、听觉和嗅觉都在超负荷工作。

You might start to mentally shut down.

Since you've struggled to process everything separately in these environments, it hits you all at once and can feel very overwhelming to you.

Number two, you absorb other people's feelings as your own.

第二,你把别人的感受当成自己的感受。

Have you ever felt a certain way without knowing exactly why?

Did it happen to match the feeling that one of your friends had at the time?

Absorbing other people's feelings as your own can be attributed to your high level of empathy and ability to understand other people's feelings.

There are even situations where you can't distinguish your own feelings from others, which can be exhausting for you.

有时你甚至无法将自己的感受与他人区分开来,这会让你非常疲惫。

One example of this is if your close friend is stressed because of a job interview and suddenly you feel stressed as well, even though you are relaxing and content at home.

Number three, you are overly analytical and observant of other people.

第三,你会过度分析和观察他人。

As an HSP, you're extremely observant and might notice things that other people don't.

Additionally, you might start over-analyzing what each of these small details means, especially when you suspect the other person was not being honest or was upset with you.

For example, you noticed during a conversation that your friend was trying to avoid eye contact with you and that their tone of voice did not match what they were saying.

And then once the conversation was over, you found yourself stuck with those two small details in your mind.

Number four, you don't do well on a poor night's sleep.

A lack of sleep is enough to make anyone cranky, slow and unproductive.

How do you feel when you don't get enough sleep at night?

If you are an HSP, you most likely feel pretty terrible, making the following day almost unbearable to get through.

Getting enough sleep helps soothe your heightened senses and allows you to properly process your emotions.

How much sleep you get at night can literally make or break your day.

When you process information deeply it affects your day to day needs.

Number five, you get extremely hangry.

Hangry is a word that has been popularized and comes from mixing the feelings of hunger and anger.

Hangry这个词已经很流行了,它是由饥饿和愤怒两种感觉混合而成的。

It's when you're hungry, irritated, and upset at how loud your tummy's growling and the food just won't come quick enough.

指的是饿了,烦躁了,肚子叫得太响了,食物来的不够快。

As an HSP, you're susceptible to extreme feelings of irritability when you're hangry.

作为高度敏感人群,当你饿怒的时候你很容易产生极端的易怒情绪。

According to Dr.Aron, HSPs are more prone to suffer from dips and spikes in their blood sugar levels and hunger can really mess with your mood and concentration.

Number six, the pressure of being under observation is overwhelming to you.

第六,被观察的压力对你来说会很大。

Do you feel like your performance dips whenever someone is watching what you do?

Are you extremely self-critical to the point where you start to doubt yourself?

你有没有因过于自我批判以至于开始怀疑自己?

As an HSP, you are your own worst critic and tend to overthink things a lot.

The fear of failing when under evaluation or well-performing can feel overwhelmingly pressured. This pressure can cause you to underperform.

Number seven, you say yes when you really wanna say no.

第七,当你真的想说不的时候你说了“是”

Do you ever find yourself doing things or going places you don't want to be in, just because someone asked you?

你有没有发现自己会仅仅因为别人的要求就去做自己不想做的事情或者去自己不想去的地方?

As an HSP, you're highly empathetic and aware of other people's feelings.

作为一名高度敏感人群,你很有同理心,很了解别人的感受。

And because of these traits you want to avoid letting people down at all costs.

因为这些特点,你会希望不惜一切代价避免让别人失望。

As a result, you tend to say yes to things that you really don't wanna do.

因此,你倾向于对你不想做的事情说“是”。

For example, if one of your friends asked you to come to a party and you say yes even though you hate parties, you're most likely an HSP.

例如,如果你的一个朋友邀请你去参加一个聚会,即使你讨厌聚会你也答应了,那你很可能就是一名HSP了。
