This is Everyday Grammar.

这里是《每日语法》节目。
Today, I want to begin by asking you to examine two sentences and compare their meanings.
今天,我想先考大家两个句子,比较一下它们的意思。
Are the meanings the same or different?
它们的含义相同还是不同?
Sammy ate the pizza.
萨米吃了披萨。
It was Sammy who ate the pizza.
就是萨米吃的披萨。
So, what do you think?
那么,你怎么认为?

The answer is this.

答案是这样的。
The first sentence, "Sammy ate the pizza," is just a simple statement of fact.
第一句话“萨米吃了披萨”仅仅是个简单的事实陈述。
Unless the speaker stresses one of the words, they are not trying to emphasize anything specific.
除非说话人加重了某个单词的发音,否则这句话并没有强调什么特别的东西。
But in the second - "It was Sammy who ate the pizza." - the speaker is emphasizing that Sammy did the action, not some other person.
但在第二句中——“就是萨米吃的披萨”——说话人强调了是萨米吃的,而不是别人。
It is an example of a cleft sentence.
这就是从句的一个例子。
There are different kinds of cleft sentences.
从句有各种不同的种类。
Today, we look at it-clefts.
今天,我们来看it引导的从句。
In it-clefts, like the pizza example, the emphasized information always appears after the verb "be".
在it从句中,像刚刚披萨的例子,被强调的信息常常出现在“be”动词之后。
Most it-clefts use the past tense of "be" and begin with the words "It was," like in the pizza example and in this next example.
大多数it从句使用“be”动词的过去式,以“It was”开头,就像刚刚那个披萨的例子,以及接下来这个例子。
It was the girls who won the science prize.
就是女生组赢得了科学比赛。
Here, the speaker is emphasizing that the girls - not some other group - won the science prize.
这里,说话人强调了女生们——而不是其他团队——赢得了科学比赛。
Listen for cleft sentences the next time you hear English being spoken, and ask yourself what information they are emphasizing.
下次你再听英语时,注意听听从句,问问自己,句子中强调了什么信息。
And that's Everyday Grammar.
以上就是今天的《每日语法》。
