cool down 凉快，降温

cool 这个单词本身就有凉快，凉爽的意思。 cool down是一个动词词组表示变凉，降温， to become cooler in temperature. 这个词组不仅仅可以形容气温，它还可以用来形容人，表示使冷静下来，相当于calm down, to become calm after being angry.

Don't expect temperatures to cool down by then.

别指望那个时候天气能凉快下来。

The air has cooled down a little now.

空气凉快了一点。

After I cooled down I realized I had been wrong.

我冷静下来之后才意识到自己错了。

sound the alarm 敲警钟

To alert other people about something dangerous, risky, or troublesome.

敲警钟在英文当中不能直译成knock the bell, 而是用sound这个单词，它除了有我们熟知的听到和声音的意思，还可以作动词表示发声，使响起。警钟应该用alarm这个单词，因为它有警报的意思，还可以表示担忧，惊恐。

People sounded the alarm ahead of the storm.

官方在风暴来临前就拉响了警报。

Our boss has sounded the alarm about possible job cuts.

老板敲警钟可能会裁员。

wake-up call 敲警钟

wake up是一个动词词组表示醒来的意思，wake-up call本来的意思是住酒店时会提供的叫醒服务。 但是它也可以表示警醒，警钟的意思， 必须要采取行动了。

If something that happens is a wake-up call, it should make you realize that you need to take action to change a situation.

These floods were a wake-up call.

这些洪水敲响了警钟。

This exam is a wake-up call for him.

这次考试给他敲响了警钟。
