全民信息化的时代，我们每天都在进行信息的分享和交换，享受着智能设备和线上生活带来的便利。

美照、小视频、动态、位置分享...我们的一举一动在或主动或被动地PO上网的同时，也留下了印记，留下了“信息安全”的隐患。

今天的 Buzzword Doxxing 就和这个让人不寒而栗“信息安全”的隐患有关。

在中文语境里，Doxxing 就是我们常常说的“网络扒皮”或者“人肉搜索”；而受害者说的“I’ve been doxxed”则是我被“人肉”了。

Doxxing

The act of publicly revealing previously private personal information about an individual or organization, usually through the Internet.

你一定想不到，Doxxing（同doxing）这个词最早来源于“documents”-文件这个词。

In the 1990s, hacker culture shortened the term to “docs” and then “dox”.

最早，黑客文化将“documents”变成了“dox”,而后，它的意思再度逐渐演化成了黑客小圈的行话：collecting personal documents or information like someone’s actual address, and publishing them online.

比如，因为个人私怨或者利益，把目标人物的个人信息-电话、地址、工作单位等等，全部暴露在了网络上，这样的行为，就是Doxxing.

后来，因为全世界最大的黑客组织“Anonymous”频繁地使用, “dox”于是乎也变成了主流媒体和大众都在用的词。

The term "dox" entered mainstream public awareness through media attention attracted by Anonymous, the Internet-based group of hacktivists and pranksters who make frequent use of doxing.

说一个大家可能有所耳闻的真实案例：

2011年，因为执法部门调查黑客行为，所以“匿名者组织”一怒之下，便在网路上公布了7,000个执法部门工作人员的个人信息作为报复。

可谓是大型Doxxing现场了。

来到今天，在我们的日常语境中，“Doxxing”便有了“未经他人允许，擅自在网上发布他人的个人信息和隐私”的意思。

Today, “doxxing” means publishing someone’s information online without their permission.

当然，它也可以指“专门揭露匿名用户真实身份”的行为。

It can also apply specifically to uncovering the real person behind an anonymous username, and exposing that person’s real identity online.

Why do people do it?

其实总结下来，"网络扒皮"一般是以下几种原因：

online shaming 对他人的公开羞辱

extortion 敲诈勒索

vigilante aid to law enforcement 自发而起的“朝阳群众”对犯罪者的曝光

While the concept is decades old, doxxing is still alive and well — and it can be very dangerous, especially as it becomes more mainstream.

随着“网络人肉”逐渐深入主流文化，我们每个人也都可能成为其受害者。

Once someone’s physical address, job location, phone number, email, or other information is out there, they can be an easy target.

Doxing attacks range from the relatively benign, such as fake mail sign-ups or pizza deliveries, to the far more dangerous, like harassing a person’s family, threats and other forms of cyberbullying.

想想看，我们所有的个人信息在网络上相当于是透明的，一旦有心之人想要对你做点不好的事情，简直就是“敌人在暗，我在明”；

Doxxing 引来的攻击从垃圾邮寄、骚扰信息到跟踪尾随、对目标人物家人朋友的威胁等等网络霸凌行为...可以说是防不胜防啊。

How does doxing work?

Doxers(对别人进行“网络扒皮”的人) collect breadcrumbs“网络面包屑” — small pieces of information about someone — scattered across the internet, then put them together to reveal the real person behind a user name.

These breadcrumbs can include the target’s name, physical address, email address, phone number, and more.

除了收集网络面包屑，Doxers还会通过暗网进行他人隐私信息的买卖。

Doxers may also buy and sell personal info on the dark web.

可能，真正让大家害怕的是，在这个数据化的时代，只要我们用智能手机，用电子支付和社交媒体，我们就在撒breadcrumbs。

而这些，使得我们人人都有可能成为被“扒皮”的对象。
