Qianlong cabbage was reportedly the Emperor Qianlong's favourite vegetable dish (hence the name).
据说,“乾隆白菜”是乾隆皇帝最喜欢的一道素菜(因此得名)。
Legend has it that Qianlong arrived at a restaurant in the capital city after a long day of travelling,
传说有一次,乾隆皇帝在经过一天的长途跋涉后,来到了京城的一家饭店,
he often travelled incognito to observe the conditions of ordinary people.
他经常微服出访,体察民情。
By then, it was late and the emperor was hungry.
当时天色已经很晚了,乾隆皇帝腹中很是饥饿。
Without having much to serve, the cook chopped up some cabbage, mixing it with sesame paste and a bit of honey.
在没有太多食材的情况下,饭店的厨师把一些大白菜切碎,用芝麻酱和一点蜂蜜进行搅拌。
To his surprise, Qianlong enjoyed the dish tremendously so the chef simply named it Qianlong cabbage.
令他惊讶的是,乾隆皇帝非常喜欢这道菜,于是后来厨师就简单地把这道菜命名为“乾隆白菜”。
