Today, we will look at two common sentence patterns for the verbs advise, suggest and recommend.
今天,我们来看看advise,suggest和recommend这三个动词的两种常见句型。
Listen to this sentence and decide if you think the sentence structure is correct:
听下面这个句子,判断你认为这个句子的结构是否正确:
Our lawyers advised that we should not give interviews.
我们的律师建议我们不要接受采访。
So, what did you decide?
那么,你的决定是什么?
The answer is the sentence is not correct.
答案是这个句子不正确。
The verbs advise, suggest and recommend already indicate that someone should do something.
advise,suggest和recommend这三个动词已经表示某人应该做某事。
So use of the modal verb should after them makes their meaning redundant.
所以在它们之后使用情态动词should会使它们的意思变得冗余。
Now, let's talk about sentence patterns these verbs have in common.
现在,让我们来谈谈这些动词可以使用的相同句型。
One pattern they all follow is verb + noun phrase.
它们都可以使用的一个句型是“动词+名词短语”。
Listen to these examples and pay attention for the noun phrases that follow the verbs:
听下面的例子,注意这些动词后面的名词短语:
My doctor advises 30 minutes of cardio per day.
我的医生建议我每天做30分钟的有氧运动。
Can you recommend a good restaurant in town?
你可以推荐一家城里的好餐馆吗?
Gerunds can also follow these verbs of advice.
动名词也可以跟在这些表示建议的动词之后。
Some of you may remember that a gerund is the -ing form of a verb and acts like a noun.
你们有些人可能还记得动名词是动词的-ing形式,它的作用类似名词。
Listen to these examples and notice that a gerund comes after each verb:
听下面的例子,注意每个动词后面的动名词:
I suggest replacing that old piece of equipment.
我建议更换那台旧设备。
We recommend visiting the museums on weekdays.
我们建议在工作日参观博物馆。
