Anthony Lowe Jr. was just 36 years old when he was shot to death by Huntington Park police officers last week after police say he threatened them with a knife.

Today, Lowe's family and members of the Coalition for Community Control Over the Police held a news conference in front of the Huntington Park Police Department,

condemning the shooting as another example of police brutality.

And Lowe's family members say this case is reminiscent of the 2020 killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.

"This situation is worser than George Floyd! When these videos go out, it's gonna be all bad."

She's referring to surveillance and cell phone video that the LA County Sheriff's Department has collected.

Sheriff's investigators are now heading up the probe into the officers-involved in the shooting.

Eyewitness News reached out to the Huntington Park Police Department, officials declined to comment on camera,

but released a written statement saying, "Lowe was armed with a 12-inch butcher knife, had already stabbed one man and was refusing to drop the knife threatening to throw it at officers."

According to the statement, officers Tased Lowe twice and when he tried throwing the knife at the officers again, they opened fire.

Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene.
