I was thinking about giving reasons--explaining why something happened.
我在想如何给出理由——解释事情发生的原因。
Oh! I have an example: I check my grammar book after watching Everyday Grammar TV because John Russell is sometimes wrong.

Well, at least I'm not always wrong.

I'm kidding. But in the example I gave, the conjunction "because" plays an important part.

Conjunctions are like glue that join two different things together.
连词就像胶水，把两个不同的东西连接在一起。
In this case, clauses.
在这种情况下，是把分句连接在一起。
The first clause is "I check my grammar book after watching Everyday Grammar TV..."
第一个分句是“我在看完《每日语法》后会查语法书……”
The second clause is "John Russell is sometimes wrong."
第二个分句是“约翰·拉塞尔有时是错的。”
You love saying that, don't you?

I do! But in all seriousness, English speakers also use the noun "reason" to explain why things happen.
是的！但说真的，以英语为母语的人也会用名词“reason”来解释事情发生的原因。
We often use the structures "the reason..." or "the only reason..." as in "The reason I called you is that I have a question about grammar."
我们经常用“the reason...”或者“the only reason...”这样的结构，比如“我打电话给你的原因是我有一个关于语法的问题。”
Or, the only reason John Russell teaches grammar is because he can't teach math.
或者，约翰·拉塞尔教语法的唯一原因是他不会教数学。
That's true, I never was good with numbers.

So, to summarize, we have a couple different ways to give reasons.

The conjunction "because" and the noun "reason".

There are certainly other ways to give reasons but these are two of the most common.
