The Bangladesh Childhood Cataract Campaign has changed the lives of many children.
“孟加拉国儿童白内障运动”改变了许多儿童的生活。
One of them is a boy called Tajul.
其中之一是一个叫塔朱尔的男孩。
For the first six years of his life, Tajul could not see.
在他生命的头六年里，塔朱尔看不见东西。
His blindness became like a prison.
失明成了他的牢笼。
Tajul could not do anything for himself.
塔朱尔无法自己做任何事情。
He did not go to school.
他没有去上学。
He did not go out to play with other children.

The one time that he left his house, he fell and broke his hand.
有一次他离开家，摔倒摔断了手。
So, when he was seven, Tajul’s father took him to Sirajganj Eye Hospital.
因此，在他七岁的时候，塔朱尔的父亲带他去了锡拉杰甘杰眼科医院。
The trip took six hours on the bus.
这次旅程在公共汽车上花了六个小时。
But, it was worth it.
但是，这是值得的。
Two short operations solved the problem of Tajul’s blindness.
两次短小的手术解决了塔朱尔的失明问题。
A short time later, the doctors removed the protective covers from Tajul’s eyes.
不久之后，医生取下了塔朱尔眼睛上的防护罩。
And the first thing he saw was his father’s smile!
他首先看到的是他父亲的微笑！
The operation for cataracts is a simple process.
白内障手术是一个简单的过程。
Doctors remove the useless lens from the eye.
医生将无用的晶状体从眼睛中取出。
Then, they put in a clear, plastic lens.
然后，他们放入一个透明的塑料晶状体。
Light can shine through this lens without any problem.
光线可以毫不费力地穿过这个晶状体。
So the eye can produce the true image of what it sees.
所以眼睛可以产生它所看到的真实图像。
Doctor Hossain talks about how such a simple process has a great effect:

I meet the children who have been helped by these operations.

Tajul is sitting in his favourite place - up high in a tree.

From there, he can watch his friends play football.

He can see his house.

His mother is outside.

Tajul calls her name.

Quickly, she looks up.

How life has changed for her son!
