A. I'd Like to Book a Seat on a Flight
A secretary phones to book an airline seat for Mr. Black, from London to Beijing.
Clerk: British Airways. Good morning. Can I help you?
Secretary: I'd like to book a seat on a flight from London to Beijing on the 2nd of October, please.
Clerk: Do you want a morning or an afternoon flight?
Secretary: There is a flight leaving at 17:30 in the afternoon. That would be the most convenient.
Clerk: I'm afraid that flight is fully booked.
Secretary: Could you check other flights leaving London for Beijing in the late afternoon of the 2nd, please?
Clerk: There are seats available on a flight leaving at 16:15.
Secretary: I think it's suitable. Can I book a seat on it, please?
Clerk: Sure. Could I have your name, please?
Secretary: It's for Mr. Black.
Clerk: First-class or economy?
Secretary: Economy, please.
Clerk: Single or return fare?
Secretary: Single.
Clerk: Thank you for calling. Good-bye.
Secretary: Good-bye.

B. I'd Like to Book a Room at your Hotel
A telephone conversation to reserve a room for Mr. Mancone.
Receptionist: Cherry Hotel Reception. Can I help you?
Secretary: I'd like to book a room for Mr. Mancone. Our executives usually stay at your hotel.
Receptionist: Can you give me the dates, please?
Secretary: The 21 st of September to the 2nd of October, inclusive.
Receptionist: Would you like a single or a double room?
Secretary: A single room with bath, overlooking the park, if possible.
Receptionist: Yes, there is a single room with bath available. Room 504. And it overlooks the park.
Secretary: Does it have a telephone extension?
Receptionist: Yes, it does.
Secretary: Can he use a reception room for business meetings?
Receptionist: Yes, there are reception rooms available.
Secretary: Thank you. Can you book a room for Mr. Mancone for those dates please?
Receptionist: Certainly. I've made a note of that. And we look forward to seeing Mr. Mancone.
Secretary: Thank you very much. Good-bye.
Receptionist: Good-bye.

Passage
A Letter for Booking a Room

Dear Sirs,
I would like to book a single room with bath from the 21st of September to the 2nd of October, inclusive. It's for Allan Mancone, our sales manager. As you know, our executives usually stay at your hotel when in London. We would like you to provide a room with a telephone extension and overlooking the park, if possible. Mr. Mancone will arrive on the morning of the 21st of September, and leave in the afternoon on the 2nd October. Could you please confirm this booking with a return letter? We look forward to hearing from you.
