Media focuses on China's National Day Celebration

Anchor:

As China's massive celebrations marking its 60th anniversary get ready to kick off on Thursday, journalists and reporters from both China and across the world are gearing up to cover the historical events.

Wang Ling has more.

Reporter:

More than 4,500 journalists have filed applications to cover the spectacular events with some 1,300 from overseas. Jaime Flor Cruz is CNN's Beijing Bureau Chief and correspondent.

"We have already made a series of reports related to the National Day celebrations. I'm glad we are given the chance to cover the event. We hope to record the historical moments with our cameras and show the world the changes China has made."

Like Jaime, Itar-Tass' Beijing office chief, Andrew Kirillov, has a good command of Mandarin. He hopes to tell his audience in Russia about the changes found by average Chinese people.

"I would like to talk with young people and senior citizens; because ordinary people are able to give you a different perspective to see the changes in everyday life. Through covering the National Day celebrations, we hope to bring a clearer picture of China's development to people in Russia as both nations hope to know each other better."

Media organizations in China have sent their top reporters and journalists to cover the National Day festivities. The official website of China's leading newspaper, the People's Daily, will cover the events in seven different ethnic languages, including Mongolian, Tibetan and Uygur languages.

Guan Jianwen is chief of the website.

"We have more than 30 directories online through which browsers can learn about the latest news concerning the National Day celebrations and share their opinions with others. So far we have seen millions of hits on those topics related to the celebrations."

CRI has also published reports relevant to the National Day events in 59 languages. On October 1st, CRI will broadcast live in 26 languages on the celebraton events which include the military parade, pageant and evening gala.
