34 Chinese workers of attacked Chinese company in South Kordofan arrive in Khartoum

Almost 3-dozen Chinese workers whose operations in Sudan came under attack have now arrived in the capital, Khartoum.
The group is among workers who had been working at separate sites in the restive province of South Kordofan.
The Chinese authorities say the company's camp was targeted by rebels on Saturday, with 29 of them abducted and one missing.

Seven detained over south China river pollution

Seven people have been detained in Guangxi on suspicion of industrial pollution.
All seven are chemical plant executives in the southern Chinese region.
The seven have been detained in connection with the discovery of cadmium in the Longjiang river earlier this month.
The toxic materials are still flowing downstream, and are threatening the drinking water source for the city of Liujiang, which is home to 1.5-million people.

Top Chinese political advisor's visit: cooperation with AU, Ethiopia

The Chinese foreign ministry is now characterizing a top Chinese leader's recent trip to Africa as a success.
The foreign ministry says top political advisor Jia Qinglin's time in Africa has help boost Chinese friendship and cooperation with both the African Union and Ethiopia.
Jia Qinglin represented China at the opening of this past weekend's African Union Summit in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
The foreign ministry says, among other things, that Jia stressed China's respect for Africa's choice of its own development path.

No scenario where Assad can hold onto power: U.S. official

美国官员表示阿萨德已经失势

A senior U.S. official from the Obama administration is now suggesting there is no scenario where embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can hold onto power.
Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes' comments come as the US side pushes for strong sanctions against Syria within the United Nations.
At the same time, Rhodes admits the US has run into challenges in getting a resolution it wants because of opposition within the UN security council.
He also says the US is going to continue lobbying countries around the world to try to drum up support for stronger sanctions on Syria.
The Russian side has already said it's not going to back a new resolution on Syria drafted -- in part -- by a number of Arab states, saying the resolution is "unacceptable."

Six people die of cold in Romania; one confirmed dead in Greece

罗马尼亚6人死于寒流;希腊1人确认死亡

The authorities in Romania are reporting that at least 4 more people have died of exposure in the country over the last 24-hours.
This brings the current number of dead to 6 so far in the cold-snap in Romania.

Meanwhile, further south, one illegal migrant is dead, and two others missing, while trying to cross over the Evros River, which divides Turkey and northern Greece.
Temperatures in that area are dipping down to an unseasonable minus 8.

Occupy Washington protestors defy deadline to remove camps.

占领华盛顿抗议者蔑视警方撤走营地的最终通告

'Occupy' protesters are defying a deadline by police to remove their camps or face arrest in Washington DC.
Protesters have erected a "tent of dreams" around a statue in McPherson Square in defiance of a Monday deadline to withdraw from the park.
The camps at McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza are Occupy's most visible sites, after the high profile camp in New York City was cleared out in November.
The deadline follows mass arrests and clashes with police at the anti-Wall Street protest in Oakland, California.
This has left the protesters in Washington a little on edge.
"I'm not really sure what's going to happen. Relations with DC police have been better than a lot of places most of the time that we've been here, but they seem to have soured, especially with the tasering yesterday. So, I don't know. We'll see. They were supposed to start evicting at noon, but nothing has happened yet. So, who knows."
Occupy protesters say they are expecting supporters from other cities, including Philadelphia, New York, and Boston to join them.
The Occupy Protests began last year in New York as a protest against corporate greed, and quickly spread across the United States.
