U.S.- Beijing talks concluded
The United States and North Korea have concluded nuclear talks in Beijing.
Glyn Davies, who led the US talks, says that progress has been made.
Davies adds that the US will evaluate the results of the talks during the coming week in Washington.
During the two-day talks, Davies also met with China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, Wu Dawei.
The six-party talks have been stalled since late 2008 at which point North Korea withdrew from the negotiating table after the UN issued sanctions following a North Korean ballistic missile test.

China to follow developments of Argentine train crash
A Foreign Ministry spokesman says the Chinese Embassy in Buenos Aires will "closely follow the developments" in a recent train crash in Argentina that claimed the lives of dozens of people, including one Chinese national.
Hong Lei says the embassy has got in touch with the relatives of the Chinese victim and provided them with necessary aid. He says the embassy will help to properly handle the aftermath of the accident.
A packed commuter train crashed into station buffers in Buenos Aires during rush hour Wednesday morning, killing at least 50 people and injuring more than 700 others.

9 killed, 28 injured in Quran burning protests in Afghanistan

Nine people were killed and 28 others injured Friday during demonstrations against Quran burning by U.S. forces across Afghanistan.
The country's Interior Ministry says protest demonstrations were held in 13 provinces including capital city of Kabul.
U.S. president Barack Obama has apologized to Afghan president Hamid Karzai for the alleged Quran burning by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
At least 25 people including two U.S. soldiers have been killed since violent protests began Tuesday.

Hadi elected as Yemen's new president with 6.6 million votes

Yemen's Supermen Committee for Elections and Referendum says Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has been elected as the country's new president with 6.6 million people voting for him.
Hadi, the sole candidate of the early election that took place on Tuesday, is to lead Yemen's transitional government in the next two years.
The electoral officials say Hadi will be sworn in at the parliament on Saturday, while the inauguration ceremony is set for Feb. 27, when Hadi's predecessor Ali Abdullah Saleh will hand over the presidential palace to him.

Death toll rises to six in China steel plant gas leak
The death toll from a gas leak in Jiangsu has risen to six.
The accident occurred Thursday at Meishan Steel Plant in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu.
13 technical workers were working at the site when gas leaked from a pipeline into a gas tank under repair.
The other seven workers are still being treated at a hospital and are in stable conditions.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

China launches 11th satellite for independent navigation system
China has successfully launched a satellite into space , the 11th one of its indigenous global navigation and positioning network known as Beidou, or Compass system.
The satellite, launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern Sichuan Province early this morning, was boosted by a Long March-3C carrier rocket into a geosynchronous orbit.
The Beidou system has been used in transportation, weather forecasting, marine fisheries, hydrological monitoring, and mapping.
China will launch more satellites for the Beidou network this year to improve the system's coverage and services.

China to enhance hospital security amid rising doctor-patient tensions
The Ministry of Health plans to set up a security network that will allow for rapid police response to conflicts in hospitals, hoping to prevent fights between doctors and patients from disrupting overloaded hospitals.
The ministry says it will improve an existing emergency mechanism to deal with treatment-related conflicts and enhance measures to ensure the safety of hospital employees.
It also calls for more education on professional ethics for hospital staff and encouraged the public to be vigilant about possible misconduct by doctors.

China loosens residence rules to smooth urbanization
China is loosening its residence policies in regards to domestic migrants settling in small and medium sized cities as permanent residents.
Under the revised policies, domestric migrants can apply for permits to live in medium-size cities if they meet certain requiements.
Specifically, applicants will need to have held a stable job for three years, have stable residency and have paid social security contributions for at least one year.
The new terms allow many of China's millions of migrant workers to be formally accepted as urban residents.

Beijing to implement stricter vehicle emission standard
Beijing will usher in a stricter vehicle emission regulation this year amid public discontent over air pollution.
The city's economic planning agency says Beijing will lead other provinces in the country in implementing the tighter National 5 vehicle emission standard, equivalent to the Euro 5 emission standard applied to passenger and light vehicles in EU member countries.
All cars sold in Beijing will be required to meet the new standard, according to the agency. It did not give an exact timetable for the enforcement of the regulation, although cars that have already been sold will not be required to comply with the regulation.
