Chinese, Japanese, ROK FMs meet on trilateral cooperation
Foreign Ministers ofChina,JapanandSouth Koreamet Sunday morning for talks on trilateral cooperation in Ningbo of eastChina's Zhejiang province.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry official said earlier that the meeting would focus on developments and the future direction of cooperation between the three nations, and preparations for the fifth trilateral meeting among leaders ofChina,JapanandSouth Korea. The trilateral summit is expected to be held in Beijing next month.
The official saidChinahoped the three sides would hold in-depth discussions during Sunday's meeting on how to further liberalize and facilitate trade and investment, enhance cooperation on finance, energy, technology and disaster relief among other areas, and realize sustainable development in the three nations.

Iranian FM says upcoming nuclear talks "chance" for West to build trust

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi says the next round of talks betweenIranand world powers will give the West the chance to establish trust.
Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Japanese former premier Yukio Hatoyama in Tehran.
Salehi says Tehran will not give up its nuclear rights as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
In a message toIran's supreme leader, U.S. President Barack Obama has said that Tehran can have a civilian nuclear program if it never pursues a nuclear weapon.

135 buried in avalanche in northern Pakistan

巴基斯坦雪崩135人被活埋
As many as 135 people including 124 soldiers and 11 civilians were buried when a huge avalanche hit an army camp inPakistan's northern Siachen Glacier area early on Saturday, according to an army statement.
Rescue efforts are underway and sniffing dogs, helicopters and troops have been employed in the rescue operation.
local media quoted a retired army general as saying the chance for the survival of the buried soldiers looks very slim taking into consideration the minimum temperature in the area is minus 50 degrees Celsius.

Joyce Banda sworn in asMalawi's president

Malawi's Vice President Joyce Banda, a women rights advocate, has been sworn in asMalawi's president following the death of President Bingu wa Mutharika due to a cardiac arrest.
In her acceptance speech, President Banda called for unity and thanked Malawians for being calm during the transitional period and called on the nation to mourn the falling President Mutharika peacefully.

Death toll rises to 14 in NE China road accident
The death toll of a fatal road accident in northeastChina's Liaoning Province has risen to 14.
Other 11 injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred yesterday afternoon when a bus plunged into a ditch on Xiajinxian section of the No. 201 State Highway in Zhongjia village of Dalian's free bonded zone.
Twenty-five passengers were aboard when the accident happened, according to local authorities.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.

6 killed, 4 injured after LPG cylinder blast in NE China
Six people have been confirmed dead and four others injured in an explosion that ripped through a residential building in northeastChina's Heilongjiang Province.
Local authorities say the blast occurred early Saturday morning at the sixth floor of a building in the city of Mudanjiang.
Rescuers pulled four injured people from the damaged building, and sent them to hospital for treatment, the publicity department of Mudanjiang city said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that an explosion of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder in a house at the sixth floor caused the accident.
Further investigation is underway.

Over 9 pct Chinese aged above 65 by end of 2011
A total of 123 million Chinese were aged over 65 by the end of 2011, about 9.1 percent of the total population.
The Health Aging Symposium held in Beijing says Chinese seniors aged 80 or above are expected to take 30 percent of the population aged 65 or above in 2050, and the ratio of working-aged Chinese to the country's seniors will drop from 10:1 in 2000 to 2.8:1 in 2050.

Chinaexpands its oldest nuclear power plant with new unit
Qinshan nuclear power plant,China's first, has finished an expansion project with a new generator unit in operation.
China National Nuclear Corporation says the pressurized water reactor power-generating unit, with a capacity of 650,000 kw, takes the total number of generator units in Qinshan to seven and the total capacity to 4.32 million kw.
The nuclear plant is expected to generate about 34 billion kwh of electricity annually.

Fun science prizes launched to push science popularization
A ceremony was held in east China's city of Hangzhou last nightto give away China's first "Pineapple Science Prize", which is designed to honor researches with great imagination and to arouse the public enthusiasm for science.
The first Pineapple Science Prize is expected to promote the country's science popularization.
The awards cover researches in five fields including physics, chemistry, medicine and biology, mathematics, and psychology.
