Premier Wen urges efforts to boost dynamism of economic growth
Premier Wen Jiabao has called for greater efforts to strengthen the vitality and dynamism of economic growth.
Speaking during an inspection tour of southwest China's Sichuan province over the past three days, Wen Jiabao said the economy is running at a slower but more stable pace.
He said the economic growth rate is still within the government target range set early this year, and stabilization policies are working.
However, he warned that the country's economic rebound is not yet stable and the economic hardship may continue for a period of time.
Four killed in wall collapse at east China mining company
Four people were killed when a hopper wall collapsed in a mining company in east China's Anhui province this morning.
Local authorities say the injured are receiving treatment in hospital, but the exact number of the injured is still unavailable.
Police are investigating the incident.
Stranded Chinese frigate around Nansha Islands refloats
The navy frigate that ran aground in the waters of China's Nansha Islands has successfully refloated with the assistance of a rescue force.
An official news release says the frigate stranded in the waters around the Banyue Shoal of Nansha Islands managed to refloat on its own Sunday morning with the assistance of the Chinese navy's rescue force.
It says the fore body of the ship was slightly injured, all staffs were safe and the ship will be on a return voyage.
The ship ran aground when conducting routine patrol mission Friday night.
Rainstorms leave 11 dead, thousands homeless
Rainstorms in Guizhou Province over the the past few days have left at least 11 people dead and damaged homes of 980,000 residents.
The provincial civil affairs bureau says most of the deaths were caused by mountain torrents, landslides and avalanches triggered by the rainstorms.
The bureau said local authorities are carrying out rescue work and handing out disaster relief goods, including providing quilts, rice and oil to the homeless.
The provincial observatory says more heavy downpours are likely to hit parts of Guizhou over the next three days.
Hand, foot and mouth disease kills 17 in central China
Hand, foot and mouth disease sickened nearly 35,000 people and killed 17 in June in central China's Hunan province as high temperatures helped spread the disease.
An official with the provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention says the disease incidence rate in June was much higher than that of last June, which has much to do with the high temperatures this summer.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than five years old.
China ready to strengthen cooperation with Africa: official
China says it is willing to further deepen cooperation with Africa to benefit the two peoples.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of African Export-Import Bank's shareholder meeting in Beijing, Zhu Guangyao said all countries must come together and redouble efforts in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals before 2015.
He also warned of a possible decline in trade finance from European banks as they may continue to deleverage.
15 insurgents killed in Afghan operations
Afghan Interior Ministry says up to 15 Taliban insurgents have been killed and six others detained in operations carried out by Afghan police, army and NATO-led coalition forces within the past 24 hours.
Afghan forces and some 130,000 NATO-led coalition troops have intensified cleanup operations against Taliban and other militants recently but the insurgents in retaliation responded by carrying out suicide attacks and roadside bombings.
Iran in full control of Hormuz Strait: IRGC navy commander
Commander of the navy of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has reiterated the strategic Strait of Hormuz is in full control of Iranian military forces.
Ali Fadavi said Iran fully controls the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.. . If the United States and Israel take any hostile action against Iran, they will have to pay greatly for it.
He emphasized Iran is able to fully close the Strait of Hormuz, saying nothing will happen as long as the security and interests of Iran are not endangered, but if the United States seeks to "damage" the security of the region, all parties will suffer alike.
China's Liu Xiang to be ready for Olympics, coach says
Liu Xiang's coach says his back injury which forced him out of Saturday night's London Diamond League final will not affect his chance of winning at the Olympic Games in three weeks time.
Sun Haiping says it's just a slight problem. Liu Xiang felt a little uncomfortable in his back after the heat round. And his team decided to pull out of the finals just for the sake of caution.
He says Liu Xiang will be sure to fight to the end in the Olympic Games.
