US President Donald Trump firing up his domestic base over the weekend and things may be about to get hotter on the international front. US sanctions against Iran are back with bans on buying everything from carpets to cash. Without dollars Iran's economy is in trouble and street protests are mounting. Sanctions are resuming because Trump abandoned an international agreement to reduce them in exchange for Tehran giving up nuclear weapons development. But that applies pressure on Iran. Trump suggested he's also open to talks, tweeting "I will meet or not meet. It doesn't matter. It's up to them." Even so Trump is isolated on this issue. The European Union wants to stick with the deal and is protecting its company's continued trade with Iran against US sanctions. And China, another signatory to the deal, is pivotal to it; that was the message from Iran's foreign minister to his Chinese counterpart when they met on Friday.
