President Xi Jinping has wrapped up his inspection tour of Yunnan Province.
The trip came just ahead of the Spring Festival, and the president has extended greetings to all Chinese people home and abroad.
Xi Jinping called for efforts to persist in ecological conservation and green development.
He also called on local people to consolidate poverty alleviation achievements and promote high-quality growth.
Authorities in Wuhan have confirmed a 6th death in connection with the new coronavirus.
Local travel agencies have been ordered to cancel all group trips, while vehicles entering or leaving the city are receiving checkups to block the movement of live poultry and wild animals.
Temperature detection posts have also been set up in airports, train and bus stations to enhance examination.
Wuhan mayor Zhou Xianwang has vowed to ensure that the novel coronavirus will not continue to spread from his city.
Local authorities say they have scheduled 800 beds in three designated hospitals and will have 1,200 more ready in the shortest possible time to deal with the outbreak.
The US Supreme Court has opened impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump in the U.S. Senate.
The Senate trial is expected to continue six days a week until at least the end of the month.
Trump has sought to rally his base with the impeachment issue, fund-raising off it and at raucous election rallies painting himself as the victim of a witch hunt.
Russia's first new Cabinet meeting took place on Tuesday.
This comes after President Vladimir Putin formed his new team, replacing many of its members but keeping his foreign, defense and finance ministers in place.
The Cabinet reshuffle comes as Putin proposes constitutional changes.
Last week, he named tax chief Mikhail Mishustin to succeed Dmitry Medvedev as prime minister.
At his first Cabinet meeting, Mishustin said that the government's priority was to raise people's living standards.
The founder of Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei has told Davos that he suspects that the United States will take more action against the company, but that Huawei will survive.
Speaking at a session of the Winter Davos meeting, Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei has poured hundreds of billions of dollars into a Plan B, and that's why the company was able to withstand what he described as the first wave of attack from the United States.
The U.S. has been pressuring its allies not to use Huawei equipment in the development of 5G networks, citing security concerns.
Huawei has refuted all allegations of this nature.
Ren also stressed that Huawei is a pro-American company that has hired dozens of consulting firms in the United States to provide management advice.


The initial phase of the extradition hearing for Huawei's CFO will continue throughout the week.
The second phase is scheduled for June.
That will consider defense allegations that Canada Border Services, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the FBI violated Meng Wanzhou's rights while collecting evidence before she was actually arrested.
She was detained at Vancouver International Airport by Canadian authorities at the request of their U.S. counterparts in late 2018.
It's suggested that the case could take years to resolve if there are appeals.
Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz says the country will not rule out deploying Huawei's equipment in building future 5G networks.
He says Austria will work with its European Union partners on a decision.
The expansion of the 5G network is making further progress in the country.
