The U.S. economy slumped by 3.5 percent last year, marking the sharpest annual decline in over 70 years.
In the fourth quarter, the world's largest economy grew at an annual rate of 4 percent, down from a record 33.4 percent surge in the previous quarter.
That gain followed a record-shattering annual plunge of over 33 percent in the April to June period, when the economy sank into a free-fall amid the pandemic.

The remarks come after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Climate Envoy John Kerry both expressed willingness to cooperate with China on climate change.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian says the two sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in this regard.
But the spokesman stressed that the bilateral cooperation in any specific area will never be isolated from the overall relationship, calling on Washington to create favorable conditions for sound bilateral cooperation in important areas.

Belgian authorities have inspected a pharmaceutical facility involved in AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine production chain.
The inspection, conducted at the request of the European Union, comes amid a dispute between the EU and AstraZeneca over vaccine deliveries.
Earlier, Belgian health authorities said the inspection sought to determine whether AstraZeneca vaccine delays were due to production issues at the Novasep factory.
AstraZeneca said last week it planned to cut EU deliveries to 31 million doses from 80 million due to reduced yields at its plant in Europe.
