Chinese President Xi Jinping says China will provide 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines for the world and offer 100 million U.S. dollars to COVAX throughout this year.
Xi Jinping made the remarks in a written message to the first meeting of the international forum on COVID-19 vaccine cooperation.
He says China will work with the international community to promote cooperation in vaccines and advance building a community of a shared future for mankind.
The Chinese government has sent 20 working groups to key port cities to aid anti-virus efforts.
The working groups will supervise and guide the port cities in plugging loopholes in their measures to prevent imported infections and respond to possible outbreaks.
A health official says the recent COVID-19 cases reported in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou are highly similar to an imported case under treatment at a local hospital.
Guo Yanhong, an official with the National Health Commission, says genome sequencing has revealed the connection, and the recent cluster cases were caused by infections in the hospital.
The official says patients in the capital city of Henan Province, though also infected with the highly infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus, were not connected to the recent resurgence in Nanjing.
Guo says the outbreak has exposed loopholes in Zhengzhou's in-hospital infection control, and investigations are being carried out in hospitals nationwide to identify weak links and curb risks in infection control.
China has expressed firm opposition to U.S. State Department's approval of an arms sale to Taiwan.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson says China has lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side.
The spokesperson says China will take legitimate and necessary counter-measures in light of the development of the situation.
The spokesperson says Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the United States is interfering in China's internal affairs and undermining China's sovereignty and security interests by selling arms to the Taiwan region.
China overcame hosts Japan in straight matches to claim its fourth consecutive title in the women's table tennis team competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday.
Since the team event was introduced at the Beijing 2008 Games, China has been the only title-winning side in every edition of the Games.
Earlier on Thursday, China's Hong Kong claimed a bronze medal after upsetting Germany 3-1.
Chinese diver Quan Hongchan won the gold medal for the women's 10-meter platform diving at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday.
She achieved a total score of 466.20 and shattered the previous Olympic record of 447.70.
Her compatriot Chen Yuxi claimed silver, with Australia's Melissa Wu taking bronze.
Competing in her first Olympics, Quan collected full mark in her three out of five dives, and led all the way to the end.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention forecasts that the country will have up to 9,000 new COVID-19 deaths in the next four weeks.
It also says over 20,000 hospitalizations are likely in the week ending August 28.
As of Wednesday, there are 35.4 million cases and over 614 thousand deaths in the United States.
