The Portuguese president has announced to snap parliamentary election following the resignation of the prime minister Antonio Costa amid a corruption investigation.

In an address to the nation, the president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that he would delay formally dismissing the prime minister and his socialist government until early December after the budget for next year has been approved in parliament.
