BBC新闻:硝酸泄漏
Hundreds of people living in the Kenya port of Mombasa say they've become ill after a consignment of leaking chemical containers was dumped in their district. From Nairobi here's Adam Mynott.
A container holding a number of drums filled with unidentified chemicals were dumped at Kipevu, near Mombasa, more than a month ago. According to local people a container was abandoned by the haulier when he noticed liquid slipping out. One woman was injured when contents of one of the drums splashed onto her hands. Others have complained the respiratory problems and other symptoms. Apparently a yellow liquid and noxious fumes have been escaping from the containers. Morris Otieno from Kenya Environmental Management Authority says an operation to neutralize the chemicals thought to include nitric acid has been successful.
