Here’s just one of the lessons learned Thursday by the world’s first taikonaut: Even in space, you’re not alone. China’s Yang Liwei sent back these pictures of Earth as his spacecraft sped along its orbit around the planet. Yang spent about 21 hours in space and orbited the planet 14 times before his return descent.

China’s newest national hero, symbolizing China’s lofty goals of conquering space and beyond.
