Well some of the video game industry’s biggest names are slugging it out currently in the City of Angels, that is Los Angeles of course. The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, kicked off this week. It’s a chance for game designers, manufacturers and fans to check out what’s in the pipeline for the multi-billion dollar industry. Eric Horng has this report.

Like the video games they promote, the exhibits at the Electronic Entertainment Expo are loud, colorful, and never dull.

Despite the carnival atmosphere, E3 is serious business. The video gaming industry’s largest and most important trade show. Vendors here are hoping to create buzz about their products and grab their share of what organizers say is a 20-billion-dollar global market.

After a year of lower than expected game sales, industry observers say software companies have grown increasingly reliant on sequels, from Doom 3 to Gran Turismo 4 to Final Fantasy XI, the new year titles that dot this E3 landscape.

Software isn’t the only thing making a splash this year. I’m playing with what is called the Eye-Sawyer. Essentially, it’s a camera you hook up to your Playstation 2. It uses motion-tracking technology. It literally gets you into the game.

Organizers say more than 1300 products are on display at this year’s E3. Many expected to hit store shelves by this holiday season. Eric Horng, CNN, Los Angeles.
