【用】commemorate有更多的纪念意义，与celebrate不同，后者表示以狂欢或宗教仪式来庆祝。

四个词都有“耽搁，耽误，阻碍”的含义，区别在于：detain常常指长时间的终止，也可能是永久性的终止；delay主要指使进程或行动放幔，如：1 was delayed by the storm.；hinder表示阻止，可以是主动干预，也可以是由于突发事件或客观情况导致的，如：Bad weather hindered the military operation.; impede强调妨碍，有时带有强迫放慢的意味，如：The crowds al the scene of the accident impeded the arrival of the ambulance.
