If you're studying a foreign language,

you'll know that learning vocabulary can often be a painstaking process.
你会发现词汇学习是一道难以攻克的关卡。
After all, there are thousands upon thousands of words, expressions and idioms to learn.

But sometimes, new words appear that can confuse even native speakers.
有时甚至连说母语的人都理解不了一些新兴词汇含义。
Each year, a new set of words and expression is added to the dictionary,

reflecting the changing tastes and habits of a nation.

Members of the public were invited to submit new words and phrases to the Collins online dictionary,
柯林斯在线词典修订词条时曾向广大民众征询关于新兴词汇,短语等意见,
around 80 of which were chosen to appear in the new edition.
其中有80多个提议被采纳并编纂到新版词典中。
They range from slang or colloquial terms, to words describing food, technology or scientific ideas.
包括俚语或俗语,描述食物的新式词汇还有一些技术或科学的观点。
For example, if you've happy about a situation, perhaps you might be "made up";
比如说,如果你今天比较高兴,你就可以用“made up”,
if not, you may end up telling someone to "jog on", or go away.

Some of the words added may be a little more familiar.
有的新兴词汇也许大家已经耳熟能详。
"Facebook" is one of the world's biggest social media websites,

so it's not surprising that it has made it into the dictionary.
因此该词被收录到词典中不足为奇。
Similarly, terms such as "SMS" and "Twitterer" reflect the ever-advancing technological age in which we live.
同样,像“SMS”,“Twitterer”这类能够反映先进科技时代的词汇也被收录。
Maybe you know a "bridezilla",
还有就是“bridezilla”一词,
a play on words to describe a woman whose behavior in planning her wedding is intolerable.
专指在准备婚礼筹备过程中过分亲力亲为的新娘子。
If you're health conscious, you might be filling your supermarket pushcart with super foods.
若你对健康问题十分在意,你可能会去超市会购买一整篮的super foods。
Sometimes, learning a language can be tough and, with new words being added all the time,
学习一门语言虽然很难,况且还有新式词语不断涌现,
don't panic if you find that you've forgotten the name of something.
但如果你实在想不起来物体的名称也不要惊慌。
Now, you can safely call it an oojamaflip, instead.
不妨用“oojamaflip”一词来代替。
