2.absent adj.缺席的；茫然的；心不在焉的 vt.使（自己）离开

4.assert vt．宣称，断言；维护，坚持（权利等）

【派】assertion[n．语气肯定的话，断言；主张，坚持（权力、意见等）]
【辨】assert, affirm, allege, assert表示确信不移地宣称某事，如：He asserted that man's nature would never change; affirm指肯定地宣称某事为真实的，强调的是相信或坚定的信念，如：affirm one's faith in God; allege表示无证据地阐述某事。
5.discard v．丢掉，舍弃

7.strip v．剥去，剥光，脱光衣服；剥夺，夺走 n．条，带，细长片；（陆地、海域等）狭长地带，带状水域
【例】The general was stripped of the rank because of bribery.

外交部国务大臣金?豪厄尔斯谴责加沙地带的暴行，称其“完全不可接受”。
【用】strip作“剥夺”讲时常与of一起使用，表示“剥夺某人某物”；词组comic strip是“连环画”的意思。
8.bargain v．议价，讨价还价 n．廉价货;合同，协议：交易
【记】联想记忆：baf(障碍)+gain(获得)--高价是得到物品的障碍，所以要讨价还价--讨价还价
【例】The price of public transportation in Beijing has doubled twice since 1989, but it is still a bargain.
自1989年起，北京公共运输的价格涨了一倍，但还是很便宜。 (2000)
drive a bargain: Duncan was not so stupid but he could drive a hard bargain.
