24At the Great Hall of the People, China's State Council has held a ceremony to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, attended the ceremony, with more than 1,000 others from home and abroad.

Addressing the meeting, Premier Wen Jiabao said 2008 is an unusual year in the country's development process. He said the Chinese people have conquered heavy snow storms and the Wenchuan earthquake, successfully held the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, completed the Shenzhou 7 space mission and kept good economic development momentum despite the unfavorable international economic environment.
温家宝发表讲话：2008年对于中国人民来说，是非比寻常的一年。在这一年之中，大家经历了严重的雪灾、汶川地震、成功的举办了奥运会、残奥会以及神舟7号圆满完成任务，并在国际经济形势不利的情况下维持了经济发展的强劲势头。（真的很不容易啊！）
