Unit 8 First Aid Listening
Two people have just arrived at the hospital,each with a child.
A nurse is asking them questions.
Part One A:Can I help you?
B:Yes,I wonder if you could look at Henry's leg?
A:What's the matter with it?
B:He was bitten by a dog yesterday evening and it was bleeding quite badly.
A:Let's have a look at it then.I see...
What did you do before bringing him here?
B:I washed the wound under a running water for a few minutes,
then I dried it with a cleaning cloth and
tied another piece of clean cloth around it.
A:Have you had any pain,does it hurt?
C:Yes,it does hurt a bit.
A:Was it your dog?
C:No,it belongs to a neighbour.
A:This is very important,the dog must be examined immediately.
B:Why is that? The dog is usually very friendly.
A:If the dog has a disease that makes it bite people,your son could die.
Part Two
A:Can I help you? B:Yes,this is my daughter,Jill.
She is two and half. She's drunk some ink.
A:Some ink? When did it happen? B:About half an hour ago.
A:Did you give her any first aid?
B:No,I didn't know what to do.
I thought it might be poison,so I brought her here at once.
A:Have you got the bottle with you? B:Yes,here it is.
A:Do you know how much she drank?
B:Well,the bottle was almost empty so I think not very much.
A:Right,I'll take you to the doctor.Come this way,please.
