A time you had to use your imagination(鬼故事篇)

I'd like to talk about the time when I was forced to write a ghost story.
Every Halloween, my English teacher would come up with some crazy ideas, you know, just to keep us busy, but in her words, the whole point of doing that is to experience the unique culture and get in the festive mood. Last year, she gave us an assignment about writing a movie review after watching the horror movie Dead Silence she recommended, which, by the way, almost scared me to death. And this year, she thought it would be a good idea to be more creative and inventive, so she wanted each of us to write the most frightening/horrifying ghost story we could think of, and we had to do it in just 2 hours.
So you know, all of a sudden, every classic plot in those horror movies popped into my head. At first, I tried to put them all together in my story, well, in a logical way, but later I kind of gave up, 'cause what I wrote made no sense at all. So I decided to make up my own story, which means I needed to come up with a background, some main characters and the climax of my story. I racked my brains trying to think of the scariest elements, like creepy dolls, hideous monsters, terrifying vampires or disgusting zombies. So finally, I just mixed all these factors together, and to be honest, it was a little bit long and it wasn't that scary in the end, but that was the best I could do and it was a real challenge to my imagination.
Well, the last time I had to use my imagination was when I was taking the speaking test in my college, which was just like the IELTS speaking test. My teacher asked me to describe a foreign city I've been to, but the truth is, I've never been abroad. And the worst part was, we are not allowed to ask the teacher to change the topic, so I just needed to make up a trip that does not exist. It was so hard, 'cause in order to make my story more real, I had to come up with the time it happened, the place I went to, and what I did and saw during the trip. The first city that came to mind was Las Vegas, 'cause I'd seen so many movies and TV shows about that vibrant city, you know, the exciting and colorful night life and all. And thankfully, my vivid imagination finally came in handy. What I did was to tell my teacher what a fabulous time I had in an imaginary hotel, and of course some of the stories were from the movies I watched, like the casino and the all-you-can-eat buffet, which I'd never been to. So you see, it's fair to say my made-up story was basically in my imagination.
And the funny thing was, I got more and more excited when I was telling the story, it seemed that I even bought it. So... the test went quite well, I guess.
