“寒山诗”是唐代僧人、诗人号寒山子所作的诗。世传贞观年间台州刺史闾丘胤所作《寒山子诗集序》。寒山诗被称为通俗诗、白话诗，但由于寒山诗表达上的特殊性，并非浅显易懂。或看似明白如话，实际上另有奥旨。寒山诗是中国古代诗国中的一枝奇葩，寒山诗长期流传于禅宗丛林，宋以后受到诗人文士的喜爱和摹拟，号称“寒山体”。近代以来风靡欧美和日本，形成世界范围内的“寒山诗热”。

寒山·《琴书须自随》

琴书须自随，禄位用何为。
投辇从贤妇，巾车有孝儿。
风吹曝麦地，水溢沃鱼池。
常念鹪鹩鸟，安身在一枝。


Lute and books must be right by your side,
Of what use are wealth and rank?

In turning down the king's carriage, I followed the words of my virtuous wife;
For my officer "Lord of the Cart," I have my filial son.

The wind blows, drying my fields of wheat;
The water overflows, keeping full my fish pond.

I always remember those little wrens,
Who rest content with one twig.
