Message from Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the Occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

With many sporting events having been cancelled over the past year, sports halls remaining closed and physical education still suspended in schools, we must not forget the role of sport in our collective and individual well-being.
过去的一年里，许多体育赛事被取消，体育场馆持续关闭，学校的体育课程也被暂停，但我们不能因此忘记体育对于我们集体和个人福祉的作用。
In these times of pandemic, it is important to remember the importance of sports for physical and mental health. We know, for example, that regular physical activity has a positive impact on the prevention of chronic cardiovascular diseases, which, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are the leading cause of death in the world.
值此疫情肆虐时期，我们必须首先铭记体育运动对我们的身心健康十分重要。例如，我们知道，有规律地开展体育活动有益于预防慢性心血管疾病，而根据世界卫生组织报告，心血管疾病是世界上致死率最高的疾病。
The decrease in physical activity is therefore a major health issue. It is all the more worrying because it affects young people in particular, whose physical activity has decreased since the beginning of the pandemic, from 13 hours a week to 7 hours for young people aged 6 to 18.2
因此，体育活动的减少是对身体健康的重大挑战。这种情况特别影响到青少年，所以就更加令人担忧。据报道，自疫情爆发以来，6到 18岁青少年每周体育活动的时间从13小时减少到7小时。
In response to these challenges, and to place sport at the heart of the health of our societies, UNESCO has developed a new global programme, Fit for Life. This new framework aims to promote global reflection on sports practices, to accompany national policies for the mainstreaming of sport in education, youth and health policies. By mobilizing all stakeholders in education and governments, Fit for Life will enable the collective development of solutions with a strong local impact that can be replicated.
正是为了应对这些挑战，也是为了把体育放在我们社会健康的核心位置，教科文组织制定了一项新的全球计划：“健康生活”（Fit for Life）。这一新框架旨在促进对体育实践的全球反思，以支持各国将体育纳入教育、青年和卫生政策的国家政策。“健康生活”将通过动员教育界和政府的所有行动方，共同开发出具有广泛当地影响且可复制的解决方案。
The role of sport in sustainable development is also based on the values it embodies. In a context of tension and inequalities, sport has a unique capacity to bring our societies together, to unite them in shared emotions and to transmit the values of inclusion, solidarity and mutual respect. At a time when we need to redouble our inventiveness in order to rebuild the future, sport reminds us of our ability to surpass ourselves, to go ever further.
但是，体育促进可持续发展的作用，也有赖于其所体现的价值观。在局势紧张和充满不平等现象的背景下，体育发挥着独一无二的作用，能够团结社会、凝聚共同情感并传递包容、团结和相互尊重的价值观。虽然我们必须加倍创新才能重建未来，但体育能够唤醒我们超越自我、不断进取的能力。
It is for all these reasons that UNESCO is committed to the promotion of sport in education, for all.

And it is so that all societies can benefit from the power of sport that we have launched the Sport for Development Coalition with development banks. Through it, we help public authorities to access funding for the development of quality physical education, and to support sport through the crisis and beyond – with a priority on Africa.
正是为了让所有社会都能够从体育的力量中受益，我们与开发银行一道发起了体育促进发展联盟。通过这一联盟，我们帮助公共当局获得资金，用于发展优质体育教育，并在危机期间及之后支持开展体育运动（重点是在非洲）。
For a year, sport has remained a symbol of solidarity and hope. The father of modern Olympism, Pierre de Coubertin, said that every difficulty encountered should be treated as an opportunity for further progress. With these initiatives, we are ensuring that this crisis will be the source of new progress for the post-COVID-19 world.
一年以来，体育运动一直是团结和希望的象征。现代奥林匹克运动之父皮埃尔·德·顾拜旦说得好：“我们遇到的每一个困难都应成为新的进步之机”。通过开展这些举措，我们的努力目标是将眼前这场危机转变为疫情后世界取得新的进步的源泉。
