Let's talk about trees and the reason why we need them.

Trees help clean the air.
树木有助于净化空气。
It's pleasant to walk among the trees.
走在树丛中令人很愉快。
They also give us food -- like apples, bananas and oranges.
它们给我们提供食物——像苹果，香蕉和桔子。
How about donuts?

I want to dig a hole and plant a donut tree!

... mmm... donuts!

Donuts don't grow on trees!

But we can make and build things with trees–like chairs, beds and houses!
但是我们用树木制做东西——像椅子，床和房子！
Sometimes the weather is sunny and hot.
有时候天气很睛朗，很热。
Then we can sit under a tree in the shade.
那时候我们可以坐在树荫下。
We make books from trees.
我们用树木做书本。
Also, many animals live in trees.
而且，很多动物生活在树林里。
Do plants do other things?
植物还能干其它事情吗？
Plants cover the soil.
植物覆盖和保护着土壤。
Then the wind and water don't carry the soil away.
这样一来风和水就不会使土壤流失。
All plants take energy from the sun and make it into food.
所有的植物都从太阳吸收能量，并将它转化为养分。
People and other animals need the food to live.
人们和其它植物需要食物才能生存。
Without food, they would have nothing to eat and they would die.
没有食物，他们没有东西吃，会死的。
What is energy?

Light is energy. Heat is energy.

I need food to live.

Dinosaurs need a lot of food!

They need a lot of donuts!
