c-+oNnda#Jk9#ffoo)

TEXT:Malala Yousufzai is rushed to hospital on Tuesday, her young life in the hands of these paramedics. The 14-year-old Pakistani girl was shot and seriously wounded as she was leaving her school in Pakistan's Swat Valley. The Taliban claimed responsibility -- citing Malala's promotion of education for girls as the reason behind the attack. The shooting has been met with shock and outrage, both within Pakistan and abroad. Speaking in Hong Kong, an Amnesty International official strongly condemned the violence.AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ASIA PACIFIC DIRECTOR, CATHERINE BABER, SAYING: "Well the shooting of Malala is a shocking act of violence that Amnesty International condemns in the strongest possible terms. We understand she is doing well in hospital after an operation to remove the bullet." Yousufzai rose to prominence for speaking out against the Pakistani Taliban at a time when even the government seemed to be appeasing the hardline Islamists. She's a recipient of Pakistan's highest civilian award, and has been nominated for numerous international awards for child activists. The Taliban are opposed to girls' education, and have long attacked and forced the closure of schools that enroll female students.

TEXT:The children of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori. They're appealing to President Ollanta Humala for a humanitarian pardon for their father - who has oral cancer. 74-year-old Fujimori is serving a 25-year prison sentence for corruption and human rights crimes. The case has fuelled debate in congress, where members of Peru's right-wing Fuerza 2011 party are backing the pardon plea.CONGRESS MEMBER, OCTAVIO SALAZAR, SAYING: "The basis of the issue is medical, it's the illness that is still with the former president and for us it seems correct that the president of the Republic uses his power to grant a humanitarian pardon." But Congress member Maria Del Carmen Omonte said a pardon would be controversial and impact on Peru's democracy and reconciliation process. Fujimori's authoritarian government collapsed in 2000 after a decade in power. He eventually fled to Chile but was extradited back to Peru in 2007 and sentenced to prison for theft and using death squads to crack down on insurgents.
