Europeans find cool ways to chill out in Summer's record heat

Sunbathers gather on the banks of the Seine river to chill out on what's called "Paris Plage." It's an artificial beach for Parisians who can't make it to the beach, or "plage" in French, to cool off from record high temperatures. But the heat wave hitting France and Belgium, and other parts of Europe isn't breaking thermometers. Brussels roasted in 1947 with a record 38.8 degrees Celsius, or more than 101 degrees fahrenheit. Regardless, kids flocked to water water fountains to cool off.This Belgian tourist found a tasty way to cool down:

Mexicans create a 58-meter-long (190-foot-long) sandwich

This is what goes into the world's largest torta -- different veggies, loads of spreads and lots and lots of meat. The traditional Mexican sandwich has struggled competing with imported fast foods in recent years and to beef up its reputation the local government of Mexico City created this annual festival to challenge local chefs to create bigger and tastier tortas each year.

Local Government Official from Restaurant Association, Marco Aguilar, saying (Spanish) "We're celebrating the tenth anniversary of this "mega-torta". It's a family event, it's an event where (people) can become familiar with the great Mexican food."

And this tenth "mega-torta" is truly a mammoth indeed, measuring 58 meters or 190 feet, and weighing 750 kilograms or more than 1,650 pounds. While this torta takes the honor of being the longest sandwich ever prepared in Latin America, it's still quite a few loaves short of the longest sandwich ever made which was in Lebanon measuring 730 meters or 2,400 feet long. But visitors here will tell you this torta just tastes like more.

Pro-Mursi protesters signal no plans to quit

Thousands of supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi gather Friday evening at the site of a sit in. The protests comes as the US said Friday that it would work with other nations to resolve Egypt's crisis peacefully. A day after saying the army had restored democracy by removing Mursi, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry urged Egyptian authorities to give demonstrators the space to protest in peace - a warning against dispersing pro-Mursi sit-ins.

But the protests are threatening to rob the government of a semblance of normality it needs to revive an economy which is in deep in crisis.
