1. pay sb compliment：赞扬某人，赞赏某人，恭维某人
e.g. You must give me leave to judge for myself, and pay me the compliment of believing what I say.
我自己的事自己会有主张，只要你相信我所说的话，就是赏我的脸了。
e.g. Martin is a young man of independent thinking who is not about to pay compliment to his political leaders.

2. accuse sb of sth.：指控某人某事，指责某人
e.g. We'll never accuse you of having done anything forgetful or unmanly.
我们决不会讲你不够朋友或没有男子汉气概的。
e.g. It is interesting to know that you accuse your only daughter of being the vilest of hypocrites.
真有趣，你竟然指责你的独生女儿是个十恶不赦的伪君子。
3. make trouble：惹来麻烦，制造麻烦，制造事端
e.g. If I say no, the boss will only make trouble for me.
我要是说个‘不’字, 老板准跟我过不去.
e.g. She told him at last that if he didn't quit using around there she would make trouble for him.
后来她就对他说，要是他还老是围着那儿转，她可就要对不起他啦。
e.g. Don't make trouble with me!
别跟我捣乱！
4. suffer from：吃口头
We suffer from too much officialdom.
我们深受官僚作风之害。
At that time, everyone suffered from cold and hunger.
在那个年代，每个人都受饥寒交迫之苦。
5. at one’s expense：以某人作为代价
e.g. She completed the work at the expense of her health.
她完成了工作,但损害了健康。
e.g. The king sought to aggrandize himself at the expense of his people.
国王以牺牲百姓为代价来扩大自己的权势。
6. put it bluntly：直接地说，坦白地说
e.g. Let me put it bluntly. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend so much money on a coat.
直截了当地说吧,根本没有必要花那么多钱买一件大衣。
e.g. To put it bluntly, you're fired!
直截了当地说吧, 你被解雇了!
7. throw in the towel：认输
e.g. I confess there was more than one moment in 1981 when I felt ready to throw in the towel.
我坦率承认，在1981年，我不止一次感到要认输了。
e.g. We're never going to persuade them so we might as well throw in the towel now.
我们决不会说服他们，因此我们不妨现在就认输。
8. depend on：依靠，依赖
e.g. His impulse was to go to her; he could depend on her pity.
他一时冲动要找她，指望得到她的怜悯。
e.g. We depend on the newspapers for information about what is happening.
