Strange facts about dreams

How much do we dream?

On average, a person has four to six dreams a night, yet forgets ninety percent of this within the first 10 minutes of waking up. In total, a person will spend around 6 years of their life dreaming.

Brain Activity

You would imagine that sleeping was a quiet and peaceful experience but in reality, our brains are more active during some stages of sleep than when we are awake. This stage is known as Rapid Eye Movement. And it's associated with intense dreaming. At this stage, a person's body is completely paralyzed to prohibit them from acting out their dreams.

Learning

学习

Research has proven that dreaming helps you learn and solve problems. Dreams are the brain's way of processing and understanding new information. Often people will experience reoccurring dreams which relate to things we need to understand about ourselves and the world around us.

Blind Dreams

Blind people who were born with the ability to see but later became blind can see images in their dreams. But people who are born blind don't see anything at all. They still dream and their dreams are just as intense but they involve the other senses.

The Affair

外遇

The most common dream reported by people which I'm sure most of you have experienced is the one where your spouse is having an affair. These dreams are and more like nightmares. And sometimes people are still angry after they wake up. So next time this happens, try not to take it so personally.

Nocturnal Emissions

Also known as wet dreams is a phenomenon where people experience orgasms during dreaming. This occure most commonly during adolescence, but they may happen any time in person's life. A study revealed that 4% of sex dreams among both men and women resulted in orgasms. On average, men can have as many as five erections per night. They can last 20-30 minutes each.

Lucid Dreaming

Many people are now practicing what is called lucid or conscious dreaming. Using various techniques, these people have supposedly learn to control their dreams and do amazing things like flying, passing through walls or traveling back in time.

Inventions

发明

Strangely enough, dreams are responsible for many of the world's greatest inventions. Like James Watson who dreamt up the DNA's double-helix spiral form. Or Elias Howe with sewing machine. And Dimitri Mendeleyev with periodic table.

Premonition Dreams

There are mant fascinating cases where people actually dreamt about things which later happened to them. You accurately say that these people got a glimpse of the future. This mysterious phenomenon has made people rich and even save people's lives.

Sleep Paralysis

Imagine waking up to realize you're paralyzed, unable to scream. And you feel an evil presence in your room. Study report that less than 8 percent experience sleep paralysis. But for those who do hallucinations often accompany them. The most commonly reported are the belief that there's an intruder in the room. The incubus, alien abduction and feeling of flying, falling and floating as well as out-of-body experiences.
