Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang had undergone a surgery on a torn Achilles tendon of his right foot at the Wellington hospital of London, officials said on Thursday.Chief official of the Shanghai Sports Bureau told Xinhua that the surgery took 79 minutes and the doctors were optimistic about the results.Liu will stay in the private hospital for two or three days before returning to Shanghai.The Chinese phenomena stumbled on the first hurdle in the men's 110m hurdle race on Tuesday and was diagnosed as suffering a torn Achilles tendon.Liu needs at least four weeks to recover, a Chinese doctor said.
北京时间8月10日，英国惠灵顿医院传出好消息，在之前奥运会110米栏比赛中受伤跟腱断裂的刘翔手术成功。刘翔的手术目前已经结束，历时1小时19分钟。其主刀医生对手术结果非常满意，据悉刘翔尚需住院两到三天，然后回上海休养。医生认为刘翔完全有可能继续从事运动。而据上海华山医院运动医学科陈主任透露，按正常情况，刘翔的手术需要4周左右恢复。而英国的主刀医生则认为刘翔完全有可能参加在巴西里约举行的奥运会，“4年后里约见！”主刀医生还是乐观。上海市方面还没有制定具体的刘翔康复计划，要等到后面再研究。
