基本概况
Shanghai University，one of the key institutions of higher learning in Shanghai directly under the Municipal Government and on the list of national“Project 211”in China. The president of the university is Professor WeiChang Chien，famous scientist Consultative Conference of China，the Former Vice-chairman of the People's Political of China and an Academician of Chinese academy of Science.
上海大学是上海市直属重点高校之一，也是国家“211 :工程”重点建设高校之一、现任校长是中国科学院院士、著名科学家、全国政协前副主席钱伟长教授。

Shanghai University is a comprehensive university with rich diversity of disciplines. It consists of 22 colleges and schools 2 university-supervised departments and 1 physical education department at the moment，offering 67 undergraduate programs，131 postgraduate programs，14 engineering master's programs，35 doctoral programs in the second level，5 doctoral programs in the first level，12 doctoral programs in the second level in the self list，9 post-doctoral research stations and 1 MBA programs. In addition，the university has 2 key disciplines of the Ministry of Education，4 superior disciplines of Shanghai Municipality，5 characteristic disciplines of Shanghai Municipality，1 state key laboratory jointly built by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai Municipality and 1 key research center of social science by General Administration of Sport of China.

It has a high quality faculty of 5484，among whom more than 400 are full professors and nearly 800 are associate professors. Of these professors，11 are academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering，more than 200 doctored supervisors，13 national-leveled young specialists of science and technology of their achievements and over 300 recipients of special subsidies from the central government.Shanghai University is the biggest institution of higher learning run by Shanghai Municipality. fn October 2003 it passed the evaluation for“Outstanding in Undergraduate Program”sponsored by Ministry of Education. Now there Ore more than39000 full-time students at the university，including 26000 undergraduates，6000 Ph D and master students，7 000 higher profession students. And at the university there are over 10 000 part-time students as well.

历史变迁
Shanghai University was founded in May 1994，by consolidating four former institutions of higher learning:Shanghai University of Technology，Shanghai University of Science&Technology，Shanghai Institute of Science&Technology and the former Shanghai University.
上海大学于1994年5月由上海工业大学，上海科技大学，上海科技高等专科学校和原上海大学合并而成。
Shanghai University of Technology was once Shanghai Institute of Technology founded in 1960.
上海工业大学的前身上海工学院建成于1960年。
In 1972 the institute merged with Shanghai Institute of Mechanical with its headquarter on Shanghai Institute of Technology Campus.
1972年与上海机械学院合并工学院院址为新上海机械学院总部。
The two broke up in 1979 and was renamed Shanghai Industrial University with the admission of Chinese Education Ministry. Shanghai University of Science &Technoiogy was formed by East China Branch,of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
1979年两校分开，并经教育部同意，改名为上海工业大学。
The former Shanghai University was founded in 1983，including School of Liberal Arts，School of International Business，School of Fine Arts，School of Engineering and School of Laws. These schools respectively came from part of Fudan University，part of merged Shanghai foreign Studies University and Shanghai Mechanics College Shanghai Fine Arts College，part of merged East China Normal University and Shanghai Science&Technology University.
原上海大学建立于1983年下设文学院、国际商学院、美术学院工学院和法学院，这些学院的前身分别是复旦大学分校，合并的上海外国语大学分校与上海机械学院分校、上海美术高专、合并的华东师大分校和上海科大分校,上海法律高专。上海科技高等专科学校前身。
Shanghai Laws College. Shanghai Science&Technology College was once Shanghai No. 2 Science&Technology School established in 1959，and the school became a college in 1981.
上海第二科技学校建立于1959年，1981年升格为高专。
