1957 年 9 月 1 日生于古巴哈瓦那，本名为 Gloria Fajardo 。 Gloria 的父亲为前古巴军官 Gloria 两岁的时候，古巴革命爆发， Gloria 一家移民到美国迈阿密。在读高中期间，一次上音乐课时认识了在该堂课做临时教授的 Emilio Estefan ，当时的 Gloria 在迈阿密机场打工，担任西班牙语与法语的翻译人员。 Emilio Estefan 邀请 Gloria 加入他的 Miami Latin Boys 乐队，他们的第一次合作是在一个婚礼上演唱歌曲， Gloria 还是在母亲的陪伴下才答应出席这次表演，之后， Emilio 进一步询及 Gloria 长期担任该团主唱的意愿，但是 Gloria 当时的中心全付放在她迈阿密大学心理学系的课程上，因而婉拒了 Emilio 的邀请。后来 Gloria 的母亲劝她采取折衷方案，在周末没课时再和 Miami Latin Boys 一起表演。 Miami Latin Boys 的团名不久后便更名为 Miami Sound Machine ，并发行了单曲和专辑唱片， Gloria 由此步入乐坛。
