TPO 19 Lecture 4 Art History(Cecilia Beaux)

Narrator: Listen to part of a discussion in an art history (学科分类,提示文章信息)class.

Professor: All right, let’s continue our discussion of portrait artists(portraitist) and portraiture. Who remembers any of the important points we made last time?

Student: Well, artists have done portraits of people for centuries, of famous people and regular people, and most(最高级,强调) portraits convey the artists’ personal vision, like their feelings and insights about a person.

Professor: Great,(肯定学生的回答,会做出进一步评述) that’s a crucial point(强调), and I’d like to explore that a little today(今天讲什么,主旨题). A great example(举例,笔记写“e”,不记细节,记核心,举例为了说明什么)of that(学生的回答,如果不听懂学生的回答,就不能理解that是指的什么了), that vision in portraiture, is Cecilia Beaux(重读+停顿+图片中的词,必须记录下来,并且了解其含义). Cecilia Beaux was born in 1854, and after learning to paint and studying with several important artists of the time, Beaux became known as one of the best(最高级,强调) portrait painters in the United States. She was very successful. She even(比较,强调) had portraits of the wife and children of Theodore Roosevelt, while he was president. (第2题依据)Some did not get much more prestige than that. Now,(now意味着谈下一话题,几乎每一次出现now都划分段落) those portraits also reflect the kind of subjects that Beaux tended to use, which were mostly women and children. For example, in her first major work, her subjects were ..., the painting featured her sister and her nephew. Yes, Mark?(学生的提问,提问的内容不记,但需听懂,因为关乎教授的回答)
